heys guys...
i have some questions to ask...
i want to record some guitar covers and post up to youtube which i did here
the sound is from a crappy $20 mic to the jack which is nxt to headphone jack (red input).
im using audacity to record...
how can make my recording more studio like
i thought of buying the guitar link from davis and instead of plugging the guitar in,i plug the mic with the 1/4 transformer...
will it be ok...
and to get the clearest sound, what volume must my amp be at and where should i place the mic at? (im placing the mic at the centre of cone)

pls enlighten me...
thks

nice videos man

ok first things first, I'd like to know your budget for this upgrade, what amp you're using, what OS (you're using audacity right) ?

and do give http://tinyurl.com/diyrecording a read

to have a "Clearer sound" you probably can't use your onboard soundcard to record already. because of the noise that's coming from your hard disk/cpu fans etc. and I hear something familiar inside your recordings, that high pitch mosquito killer sound that comes and goes at intervals, if i'm not wrong it's a grounding problem for the room/house, I had it once in one of my recordings and had a little extra tough time removing.

eventually where this topic will head to is that you will need to invest in a decent studio quality mic like a shure sm57 and decent audio interface.

so setting preamp levels goes like this

first it has to sound good on the guitar > pedal > amp.
then mic preamp gain to a "hot" level whereby when your "heaviest" playing does not "clip/overload"
then it's mic technique , center cone is sharper (which is what you have) , more off-axis (off center) has more erm.. "body" i guess that's what guitarists describe.

i highly don't recommend the guitar link, you're better off with a proper recording setup.

in the meantime you can check out http://tinyurl.com/softguide (diy recording under $50) it's very similar to your setup. but read the "noise removal" part which should be towards your advantage in getting a "cleaner" sound.

ok.
i really dont want to spend so much buying pro recording equipment..
really have zero idea how to sound good...

i just record and play...

my amp is a line 6 spider IV 30watt combo
im using sony vaio vpcea36fg (windows 7)
i think my mic is a dynamic mic

do i need any mixer?
sm57 is quite pricey for me
if ill need a mixer ill hope that is a nt so pricey 1...
quite a poor guitarist :(

Middleman: whether you need a mixer you should read the diy recording FAQ.because as long as you go through your current onboard soundcard it'll still be hissy.
So if an sm57 is averaged $120+ and another audiointerface average $150-$200+ and you don't have that amount to spare you may wanna consider eventually work and save hard for it.take a loan from whoever sponsored you that nice Sony vaio hehehe

mr soft: the direct doesnt work for my ears
blueprintstudio: what about usb mics? im just looking for affordable recording equips within 100-150
