'metalcore' is still unacceptable in my books, but MASTODON delivers good metal- in loads! doubt if the band is 'metalcore' either.

I guess Mastodon is far from Metalcore... Progressive Metal? I won't conisder metalcore along side the other sub-gernes of metal...

Chimaira and God Forbid are also other pretty decent metalcore bands. Chimaira's last album was actually really good (loved the drumming on it) and thankfully they dropped the clean singing, and God Forbid's was an epic sounding concept album about the apocalypse.

But I am starting to get pretty tired of the whole growl-clean chorus-gothenburg influenced style that KsE, Shadows Fall and most of the other metalcore bands employ nowadays. But for some reason Trivium still sounds ok, don't know why.

I got hold of Chimaira's album months a go. And it was a spontaneous decision.... And it's all worth every single spent... The guitar works are impressive...

Exactly... Music these days has seen a rise in a number of made up genres... Seriously, what the hell is screamo, emocore, noisecore?

lol.
i read some article years ago. An interview a band, cant remember.

1/2 of the members like Emo/punkrock stuff
while 1/2 of the other memeber like metal

and by combining 2 styles together in a band, they get those "emocore"
kind of thing.

seriously, so what if there are different genres and mix-matching these days?

it's just music to my ears WHATEVER it is.

If it has a nice melody and arrangements to it, i'll listen to it and ENJOY while i'm at it.

Times have changed, music has evolved to combine different elements or "genres" as you say, to better or worse it's particular to his/her mindset.

Music i guess will never be forever and ever the same for e.g. when you started to listen (and fall head over heels) to metal, you'd expect it to be the same 10 yrs after and if there were indeed some tweaking / changes to the music, u'd cry foul.

Whatever "core" genres are still respectable in a sense, try making this music yourself and see how decent you can compose it?

I've seen people lamenting to be "true" to their music..."true" to the genre / classification. Actually, that don't make much sense...to me, does it?

Hmm, i've seen the dissing of whatever "core" genres so frequently here...makes me really wonder how "open" or "conservative" the standards of musicians / composers here in Sgp or rather..in this forum.

Maybe if you think hard enough, you'd find similar mix-matches elsewhere..like pop-classical, rap-metal, rap-rock..or even the good ol' funk rock.

lets listen to some popcore then... Heard it's really brutal than britney spears..

or nursery-metal...?hahah i'd like to hear some..heard it's more melodic than..well nursery rhymes.

Why isn't anyone into country-rap-core?

Brutal country pickin'g riffs with angst ridden rap lyrics about a the life of a cowboy living in an urban ghetto.

Its statements like this that always don't make any sense to me, and its surprising how this particular point is always brought up...I believe the thread was approached from a listener's point of view...so a non composing music fan cannot have an intelligent dislike for a particular genre or subgenre?? I think we can all agree that without a doubt metalcore has a certain high standard of musicianship and arrangement...but then again so does a Britney Spears track for that matter...

Just my two cents.... 8)
