People tend to say that Metalcore is a disgrace to people who listens to bands like Emperor or even Bal-Sagoth... What do you think of the current Metal scene with bands like Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God and Trivium? Is there isn't enough Metal elements in their music that it's now called, NWOAM (New Wave of American Metal)?

Both votes seems to be positive.. You should put a negative comment to vote for.. As for your question, its not really a disgrace. Can't really use the word disgrace.. But its just different.. Compare Emperor and Trivium with all the people who evolved from listening to Senses fail and stuff. They'll prefer Trivium. But then, Emperor are one of the pioneers of metal. i really don't think the (NWOM) New Wave Of Metal people know where their roots came from. Some listen just to be cool. Personally for me, metalcore is alright but for some reason, it doesnt seem metal enough for me. Maybe its the eyeliner, poetry thingy and gay vocals. No offense metalcore-heads. I just dont really like metalcore.

i can't accept the term 'metalcore' as much as 'black & roll'. there's only metal & the different ways of delivering it.

those who listen to Emperor & are disgusted by Trivium for instance, seems to have a personal bout with their preferences. it shouldn't be turned into a legitimate reference.

each genre got it's uniqueness i guess.
some like it, some don't.
i think it's alright

now adays all sort of genres are coming.
being the creative juices of people? they came up with something of their own. or with combination of 2 genres to form one more style lol...

ok i dun know what i'm talking about.

you have a point there, my friend. take Aborym's 'With No Human Intervention' for instance. it's a concoction of machine-laden blast beats & black metal. some people find it disgusting, it boils down to personal appeal at the end of it all.

coming back to the aforementioned release, so what does one call this kinda music? techno black? what?

The problem with metalcore is the idea that some newbies think that its a brand new genre when in fact it is the ultimate concoction of a subgenre, borrowing totally from the whole swedish gothernburg scene for example etc...

The metalcore of today is just like the Nu-metal of yesterday or the grunge of yesteryear...it just has reached that scenario that only the american labels can do, taking a subgenre and just killing it by overexposing it and making it a sad cliche....from looks to song structures...evrything eventually sounds the same

I remember a time when Darkest Hour was like the only so call metalcore band on Victory Records...check their band list now....

Despite that...you have to admit there are some good bands and some good songs...just like with grunge...you'll weed out the rest, and listen to the best....

Im a fan of both Emperor and Trivium,so i find this issue somewhat perplexing. To me,as long as the music's good, its worth listening to it.

i never thought lamb of god was metalcore, they are more to death/thrash metal.

im ok with anything as long as it doesnt sound too gay and cheesy.

Lamb of God is pure american heavy metal. I dont really think of it as metalcore too.

Well, as long as theres 'core', its core. Metalcore is not metal - no matter how heavy the songs might be.

metalcore is just another sub-genre in music, we all have to admit that some of their songs are nice while some are not....im not really a metalcore fan but i really enjoy listening and playing a7x or trivium stuff... :D

I think metalcore is starting to get very stale already. JoshuaG got it spot on, it has become way too oversaturated with lots of mediocre bands that just follow the same style and add nothing new.

Lamb of God get lumped together with other metalcore bands because they all got big at the same time, but I think they are thrash. But doesn't matter in the end, at least they sound different than the rest. Darkest Hour is another metalcore band I heard recently that sounds promising.

As much as i see the replies, Joshua made a good statement... Newbies is a good word to use to those who somehow think that Metalcore is what 'true' metal really is... Sigh...
Oh the negative in the poll? Somehow, i think i accidentally clicked, "Submit'...

+1 JoshG

Every promising sound/genre that start to make it big from the underground/indie scenes will eventually be co-opted by major label big business to be marketed to disenchanted youth of the day. If you see it on MTV, you can bet every major label is going to sign or produce bands themselves (and maybe tone it down abit to appeal to more people) to make sure they don't left out of the new youth market.

Metalcore is the new pop. The trick is to stay ahead of the curve.

Prog rock, jazz fusion and other "technically difficult" genres of music are quite big in Japan for some reason. Think stadiums venues with legions of fans. Don't hang yourself when you go to Japan. :P

damn i shouldn't have said that, should i? :(
was intending to take a trip there
*mournfully starts weaving noose*

sorry for the off-topic! :P
