Trio to put pen to paper

At his weekly press conference, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Wes Brown has agreed to sign a new contract with Manchester United... and then revealed Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand have done the same.

Speculation has mounted throughout the season over Brown's future, with some media outlets suggesting the defender was likely to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

Reds boss Ferguson admitted that scenario looked possible at one stage, but is delighted Brown has pledged his future to United.

"There's no other club for Wes Brown," Sir Alex said. "He's a Manchester United player. We were always quietly confident he would sign."

The manager went on to reveal a phone call from David Gill on Friday morning had confirmed Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick had also agreed to put pen to paper on new deals.

"It's good that the squad is staying together," he insisted. "It continues our policy of lengthening contracts at the right time and keeps the continuity of the first-team squad going, which we try to do."

read a longer article about this on soccernet earlier..i suppose it's very heartening to see this kind of loyalty. fergie wants them in his team, and they want to stay on. bodes well for the future!

gap down to 3 points...ahh! next week's game will really make or break it man.

NAH! Even if we lose at Chelsea, we'll be level on points with them but with a huge, 10+ goal difference. Then we only need to win the remaining two games against West Ham (home) and Wigan (Away). If we draw at Chelsea, which seems the most likely, then we only need to win one of our remaining games two games. If we win at Chelsea, then we can close shop and still win the PL - again based on our superior goal difference.

Having said that West Ham has been one of our bogey teams for the past few years. Nothings confirmed yet but yes, we can lose at Chelsea and still go on to win the PL.

Haha.......... Friedel may be good.......but he was no match for Gerrard and Torres last wk. Oh well...............i guess u win some u lose some. I jus can't help thinking that Tevez cld actually be Man U's saviour this season; he has quite a few goals and all of them crucial ones. And dun hate the midtable teams zullio, man u are still top of the pile. I actually enjoy watching West Ham play, when they're on form they can play some really gd football.

heh. the first half. first few mins had a few gd chances.

i belive giggs had a great ball in that tevez couldnt catch.

But it doesnt matter. we can still win!

loldude333: i dont really hate mid-table teams. i actually do like clubs like westham and aston villa, but ManUtd just get too complacent when playing against the mid-table teams, thats why i "hate" them.

Friedel is a very good keeper and it certainly helps when he has Brett Emerton deputizing, at the same time. ;-)

It is true that many teams have a full-capacity crowd when ManUtd come to play. This inevitably leads to the home team playing better. It's not often that folks get to watch stars like Ronaldo, Rooney and company live.

Other than ManuUtd being over confident in certain games, they also fail to score early. Football relies a lot on psychology. The lower-rung teams gain confidence as the game wears on when they are on equal footing with ManUtd.

There is also the case of opposing players raising their game when it comes to facing ManUtd.

Not making excuses but these are facts.
