bcos if u haf a really hot chick as ur vocalist, it may seem like the band is featuring her. sorta like, "more her". but hey if it sells then it sells.

its subjective, if its death metal or metalcore i think a male vocalist is better...im not saying that female vocalists cant gore or whatever, but people will begin to realise that its more of a gimmick instead, everyone would just look at the band only cos of the vocalist, even if the band members are all talented musicians. Look at Arch Enemy.

For gothic metal, female vocalists are a better choice because of the melody in the music, and of course, male vocalists arent really a good idea for gothic metal, i mean not many people know that theres also a male vocalist in Lacuna Coil heh.

For other genres, i would prefer female vocalists because females bring out a better range and melody in the songs. And of course, if shes hot, its a selling point for the band.

i think where the idea that bands with female vocalist feature the female rather than the band is not always true. The only reason why ppl feel this way is cos most bands with female vocalist TRY to feature the female, cos they think it sells. Which is very silly! cos bands should just try to put the band as a whole and not try to feature any one member of the band.

Another reason could be is , the band may not really be trying to feature the female vocalist but that people automatically look at her first. i dunnoe...

for me, i would say none, not biased to males or females... i would go for their vocal range and style rather than their sex, IMO thats more important. Look at nightwish, stunning vocal from tarja(but too bad she got kick out of the band) and arch enemy(even i cannot growl like her n im a male). There's male singers that are also good, dragonforce, stratovarious, creed...wonderful man

Hmm.

I would think of it from a practicaly POV, which is.. females (more often than not) are able to sing in higher pitches than guys. So, if you plan out your repertoire right and sing the right tunes, any band would still be able to sell themselves without compromising on just 'selling the frontwoman'. However it ultimately depends on the singing ability of the frontperson. I prefer female singers because sometimes.. a band chocked with guys tend to need a 'woman's touch' LOL.

Also improves band performance.. music-wise.

if talking about range between the genders, then it should depend on the music styles and stuff.. like how the band wants to sound like.. opera or rock or growl or dangdut or something...
doesn't matter if it's a guy or girl... if you can sing it and the band and audience thinks it sounds neat, then there ya go

I think with a gd balance. A band will sound really gd with both male n female vox. picture a main guy vox, with a bkup female or vice versa or 2 main vox (m n f).

More variety of songs, fusion. v v cool
