MAESTRO OR TAKAMINE? help me decide?

Hi Avria

Hi Avria, I'm now on the search for an acoustic too. Tried a few model including the Yamaha LL6. But I personally feel Maestro guitar is better. I;m looking at the SD3 and the EJ1 but without the plug in.

havent heard much of the maestro sd series. But i love the sound of the takamine g series guitars.

hello there! i'm on the lookout for a better acoustic too man! you could probably go for the SD-2, or perhaps if you wanna save more, you could get a solid top Maestro ED-2, always wanted to own one man! You should also try the Takamine G-Series man! I would definitely say Maestro would be a better buy within that price range. However, you might wanna source for other brands? J&D guitars sell some pretty some solid tops too man! Don't restrict your buys too certain brands, cheers! Good luck!

Hi there. I am selling my SD-2 if you are interested :D. But all that aside, with a budget that high I would go for a Yamaha LL6 and install a pickup. This setup however will not have a cut-away.

Alternatively, you can look at the Yamaha CPX series at Luthermusic which I read had very nice plugged in tone. I only tried it unplugged and to me the neck felt slim and unplugged it sounded good, but not as sweet as the LL6 though. Yamaha acoustics tend to be finished thicker so they should be more hardy at the expense of taking more time to mature, but that's how I like it, YMMV.

As for Maestro, do take the necessary precautions and choose the right piece, I have seen some sloppy workmanship and even deep dings that most brands wouldn't have. Those issues aside, I feel Maestro acoustics do have great tone and value.

Just my $0.02, I am just a beginner after all :(

Tone, and quality of wood aside, i was just wondering if Mastero guitars can last through time because of the place they were manufactured in(Humid Singapore).

Anyone can clarify? :)

Better yet, buy a yamaha LL36 and a pair of neumann mics. oh oops i meant buy a yamaha LL16 and not install pickups. lol

And i think maestro guitars are also manufactured in climate controlled conditions

Heheh, correct me if i'm wrong, all Maestro guitars have carbon rods fixed on the neck right!

they are not exactly made in singapore, do check it out,
they are assembled and setup with final checking in singapore,
the major parts should be in china i think. (OEM)

avria,

I would suggest you go to luther music at excelsior and check out a yamaha FG730 (400+ without pickup) and an alvarez RD20 (550 with pickup)..

played those 2 today and they were impressive for their prices...
takamines at those prices aren't the best value and workmanship standards i'm not too confident in either.

Maestro's worth a shot but i'm not sure about long term results...

Alvarezs have pretty good resale value too
