is the Studiophile BX5a 70 Watt Bi-Amplified Studio Reference Monitors active or passive monitors? It doesn't seem to be stated on the website...

And next, i plan to record both acoustic instruments and vocals through a condensor mic from M-audio. I wondering if i should just get a Lunar Professional Large-Capsule Condenser Microphone or should i get Nova Affordable Large Capsule Cardioid Microphone and Professional Cardioid Instrument Microphone?

Im not sure if lunar can give me good results in recording both acoustic instruments as well as vocals? Or should i just get a cheaper condesnor mic with an insturment mic and use it seperately?..

Thanks for your help guys ^^..

the speakers are active. says so in the name.

as for mics, i'd go for two mics. just because i'd rather have two. :)

see if you can try it before you buy. you'll know pretty quick if it'll work for you.

or you could decide it just looks cool to have. :)

Oh, you never stated your budget that's why i suggested getting the Luna and Pulsar.

Well, in that case, just go for the Luna if you can afford it and use it for both vocals and acoustic instruments. You can have fun with it while saving up for other mics in future. If not, the Nova would suffice.

But i suggest against the Aries though. Even though it is a condenser, it is more for stage performances. Think a condenser version of the sm58 lol.

ok thank you very much .. i think i'll just get Nova to record both ^^... by the way, do u know how much a mic stand and a pop filter will cost?.. For the luna mic, where u suggest i should buy these 2 items from?..

Mic stands are available at many of the music stores namely citymusic, sweelee, especially stores at simlim.....check them out to see which one you would like to buy.

Since you're gettin a Luna, a windscreen shield is best. If im not mistaken, i saw one at Hung Bros. I could be wrong though.

*strange but true*
some ppl use a piece of sock to cover the mic instead of getting a pop filter. I've never tried it before, but those that did seems content lol

actually i've done it before. just get an old wire hanger, bend it into a circular shape, and stretch an old stocking over it and voila! u got urself a home made pop filter.

heh. guess not. but actually works pretty well in the veent that u wanna venture down that DIY road..

if not, am using a samson pop filter which i bought like for $20 at sweelee. works good too. cheers

ok.. thx ^^

LOL. The DIY pop filter wudn't be unhygenic if you use a brand new stocking. Or use the 'stocking' that the kopitiam uncle makes kopi with.

Just came back from Sim Lim......Saw a windscreen pop filter at hung bros....never noticed the price tho
