M Audio Axiom with Ableton

Hi,
I have just purchased a M Audio Axiom and is very new to keyboard controller and software synth. I have installed the drivers into my computer and have setup the controller and the ableton nicely. I have tried to play some instrument sound and it is working fine and tried to follow the tutorial as well but I cant seems to understand it.

However, when i follow the guide and recall the default program 18, and try to hit the play button(like what this guy did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGga1PAEJ-g ), no sound comes out. The rest of the pad and the slide does not seems to map as well. Am i doing anything wrong?

I have heard about enigma and have tried to fiddle with it. However i am not getting any sound from that as well.

Lastly, could anyone please advise on some good sites whereby i could get some information?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks

Hi,
Thanks. I have been to that user group and is scouring around to solve my problem. I am using the bundled software and I think it is Ableton 6 Live Lite. Have managed to get the sound and drivers properly installed but found that i could not map the knob to the individual instrument control such as LFO, cutoff, etc.

I have called up Sinemax and they have informed me that the trial version do not allow the mapping of the knob to the specific control for each sound sample. Thus i am planning to buy the full version one. Heard a lot about Sonar, Cubase, reason and Ableton. Which one are you guys using and which one do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance for all the advise. Did not expect that moving to software could be so difficult.

all are great software and each one has its own special capabilities. i'm also encountering a few difficulites in mapping out the damn MIDI... using reason more cos i'm currently doing electronica.

Checkout the tutorial livepack on how to use Live with Axiom controllers here:

http://www.ableton.com/livepacks

Look for "M-Audio Axiom Tutorial - Version 1". Extract it and doubleclick on the .alp file to install it into Live. You should then be able to access it from the tutorial pane in Live. Hope it helps :)

There is a little known feature in Ableton that makes mapping controllers automatic.

Here's how....

1.) Ableton installed a file called UserConfiguration.txt It will be in a directory like C:/Documents and Settings/UserName/Application Data/Ableton/.. something like that anyway. You can find it using search.

2.) When you find where the file is, make a new folder in the same directory and call it widdlyTheFatController. Copy the UserConfiguration.txt into the widdlyTheFatController folder

3.) Open the widdlyTheFatController /UserConfiguration.txt using notepad.

You will see something like ...

# Config File for User-defined Instant Mappings...etc,etc.

# We assume that the controls on your MIDI controller
# send CCs. All controls, except the sliders for volume
# and the encoders for device parameters, are expected
# to use the global channel. CCs are counted from 0-127
# and channels from 0-15.
...........etc, etc

4.) Find the bit that says...

[DeviceControls]
# The Encoders will control the device parameters (you can also
# use knobs or sliders). Replace the -1's with the CCs sent by
# the respective controls on your controller. You can also set
# the channel for each controller if it differs from the global
# channel (if you leave the channel of an encoder at -1, Live
# will assume that the encoder uses the global channel).
Encoder1: 72
Encoder2: 73
Encoder3: 74
Encoder4: 75
Encoder5: 76
Encoder6: 77
Encoder7: 78
Encoder8: 79
EncoderChannel1: -1
EncoderChannel2: -1
EncoderChannel3: -1
EncoderChannel4: -1
EncoderChannel5: -1
EncoderChannel6: -1
EncoderChannel7: -1
EncoderChannel8: -1

..and change the 71,72,73 number to the Midi CC's you midi controller sends for each of it's knobs. Save the file.

5.) Open Ableton and go to the Preferences/Midi

6.) In the top section under Control Surface you should be able to find widdlyTheFatController . Set the right midi ports for the input and output.

7.) Make sure you also turn on the remote button next to each of the midi ports.

8.) Add a filter delay to Audio 1 in the session view of ableton

9.) click the top of the filter delay and notice a little hand appears

10.) now your controller is automapped to all the filter delay controls

11.) add a simpler to Midi 1 in the session view of ableton

12.) click the top of the simpler and notice a little hand appears

13.) now your controller is automapped to all the simpler controls

Hi,
Not sure if this helpbut the answer to my original problm is that there is some mapping issue for the ableton Live Lite 6.0.1. Thus i have proceed to download the version 6.0.10 which would enable the remote mapping to be shown. Thus I would be able to control the knob thereafter.
