Luthite : what is it ?

have been googling up on it to find out what is it and how does it have an impact on the bass and the tonal options offered by luthite.

very curious about it.

so far the only results i have obtained is that it is

1) synthetic (derived from petroleum distillates)
2) cheaper and easier to craft than traditional wood (via mould casting techniques)
3)causes the neck to "shift a lot"

could anyone help me with this ? really curious to find out more. thats pretty much about all the data i could learn about it , seems that only a few basses have been crafted with luthite bodies and not many articles are avaliable about them.

isn't that the cheap plastic-y rough feeling material that's on all those budget guitars?

technically it is plastic. its dervied from petroleum distillates

its NOT that common though , most budget guitars tend to be made out of agathis/low-grade alder

@dexian

yea , i know ,the cort curbow series are also made out of luthite.

cant seem to find any articles about tonal properties
