Lump Sum or Royalties?

Hi all,

just curious if anyone might know, or what the industry standards are...

i wrote a song and some guy remixed it. (as in, it was a rock song but he used my song and vocals and remixed it). he is now asking what i want for it as he is intending to sell his music online. i am not selling my rights to the song. the song will be titled with my name in it as well.

as he is based in the US, i don't know how its going to work. am thinking a small lump sum figure is good enough. (maybe can buy another pedal..keke).

anyways, if anyone has any experience/advise, would be glad to hear it. thanks all!

fibredrive, i did some music for tvc and coporate video. i asked for lump sum because it would be too difficult for me to track how they use it.

also, i was young and a few thousand dollars in 1 pay cheque made me "king of the world"!

* actually, they never offer otherwise

hi james,

thanks for the tip! i was thinking it would be tough to track the usage/sales etc especially when this guy is based in the US. he left the offer pretty much open to me. was thinking in the region of between USD$1.5-$2k which i think is not entirely exorbitant for lump sum right although he did admit himself that it could be anywhere between $1k to 6 figures. but let's be realistic la...keke. think asking $1k already asking for the sky liaoz...heh.

cheers
