^ that is true but some people just want the same output of the original pickup. kinda like say vintage strats, a hell lot of them have spoilt pickups and many people have gotten them recoiled and this makes it easier to sell cos most people buy vintage strats for the output of the pickups. the values are very specific. the recoiled pickups should be worth less than the original pickups but definitely more than any SD or Dimarzio pickups. basically, recoiling pickups is just to retain some vintage value.
untrained eyes cant tell the difference between the original pickups and recoiled ones so yeah, thats where the scamming begins 8O .
anyway, that HP video didnt help one bit to be honest. so blur, how to see? I suspect its a problem with the pickup cos if there is sound coming out from it, that means that there is a high possibility that the wiring is correct. however, the pickup could be installed out-of-phase.
2 possibilities->
1) out-of-phase
or
2) one coil in the pickup is broken.
imo if the pickup is spoilt, just get a new one cos no one is going to buy a spoilt pickup. besides, if you save up slowly, I'm sure you can afford to buy a 2nd hand SD pickup. your decision though.
