Looking for some advice on how to get gigs/perform at events

Hi all,

Was just wondering how do local bands especially new ones start getting gigs. My band and I have recently been trying to search for platforms for us to play and maybe get some small pocket money. Money isn't our goal as we are all students that have been playing together for quite some time and therefore just looking for such jobs as a way of exposure and experience. I've tried looking at sites such as gumtree but not many such ads are available.

For places such as pubs do we have to contact them directly? Not really sure how the process here works or is there an online platform where they post ads when they are looking for bands to hire? Same goes for wedding band agencies should i try emailing them directly?

For a start, you can try out some open mic gigs. Video your performance. Find out who's hiring and send them your demo.

From a scale of 1 (So so) to 10 (Fantastic), how would you rate your band?

I would say we are probably around a 5? Definitely not one of the best bands around but we are all still young and still have lots of room of improvement.
