Looking for six-string basses - where to buy? Also: rent instruments

Hi guys,

I'm spending two weeks in Singapore and hope to use the time to look for some six-string basses (both fretted and fretless). Any recommendation on where to find these? Originally, I wanted to get an MTD, so I went to Davis, who are the official distributors. But their MTD selection is really lousy, plus they don't want to order for your even if you want to buy…

Also, I'm looking to rent an electric piano and an acoustic guitar to play at a wedding. Any hints who rents out instruments in Singapore?

6 string basses available at brick n mortar stores are quite rare. Especially so in Singapore. The only ones I can think of at the moment are the Yamaha TRB 6s at Music Plaza (Plaza Singapura) and the Fender Steve Bailey at Swee Lee (very overpriced). I play 6 string exclusively, and none of my instruments were bought locally. It's too niche a market. You can check out the classifieds here and make a few calls to try some used ones if you're interested.

Regarding Davis and MTD. I don't believe they ever brought any MTD USA instruments, if that's what you're looking for. They only ever carried the import models. Which are in a sorry state, inventory wise.

Just saw your WTB post on the classifieds. Since ur looking for Peaveys. 3notesAbar has a classifieds post on a Redwood Cirrus 6 for a very good price. Not listed as sold yet, perhaps give him a call.

fretless6, thanks for the helpful comments. I noticed the Peavey and will take a look at it. I also got a couple of helpful replies off-line - it seems there are a lot of people out there that own nice basses .

Check with Guitar Connection. I'm sure they do rental or equipment. If I'm not mistaken they have 2 6 string basses in their shop.
