what will the photographer with AT LEAST A DSLR that cost $$$ earn in return other than NO MONEY with your list of requirements?

dangle a nicer looking carrot. ;)

Basically this is your requirement, simplified from advanced calculus to intermediate algebra:

- a photowannabegrapher with lotsa free time

People who do work should be paid for it.

unfortunately many people who runs *profit making organisation think otherwise.

photographers or wannabephotographers are one of the most abused people.

*profit in this case could be direct or indirect profit. Lets say you run a free zine and photos are required. You have a good pool of photographers doing it for passion and friendship for FREE. And then you do intended profit making projects that MAY or MAY NOT generate income but the intent is to at least get some money, and you have the same pool of photographers doing it for passion and friendship for FREE ALSO.

worse are the ones who uses the works of the photographers FOR FREE and ALSO NOT CREDIT the photographers. Crediting the photographers is not a one time thing. It should be done ALL THE TIME whenever the photo is used, don't wanna/forget to credit... DON'T USE LOR or at least PAY for the photo cos you've already done your part to own it or get a disclaimer from the photographer, "chin chai lah... use however you wannt use lor..."

aiyah, talk so much also no use, cannot cook rice one. CONSTANT RESPECT for other people's work should be coming from everyone especially those who are also in the "scene".

the worst is when musicians, who are also abused workers, try to do the same thing to photographers. At least a token sum, if not a guarantee of transport fees and meals.

i'm sure many of us here on soft know the feeling of going to a gig, getting no money, spending out of our own pockets on transport and food, and then playing to a crap audience for the sake of "exposure". Unless organisers can offer bands (who deserve it) exposure on at least a decent scale, or if the concert's for charity, something's seriously wrong if you don't expect to reimburse people for their trouble.

But then, everyone's so hungry for exposure. And people who have profits at the forefront of their thoughts will never agree with me. How can you even think of making money out of people who will go hungry?

My band is playing next year at a gig, and i recently found out the guy who acted as our agent without authorization is taking nearly 50% of the pay that the client offered, without informing us that he wasn't actually the client.

Have some compassion please, if not integrity. People are having a hard time. Let's make things easier for everyone by giving them what they deserve.

Actually, it's a different case when you're a freelancer. I've been a freelance traditional/CG artist, computer tech & systems admin for 3 years now, never been the same, it's a sudden burst of income at one point, & the next you find yourself eating bread crumbs. Sometimes you HAVE to sell your soul & do things for free, so that when the time comes, you don't climb the corporate ladder, you own it (or destroy it).

So I feel for the freelance photographers out there. I still have a debt to a photographer friend. He was a professional (not hobbyist, not amateur, not freelance), but did things worth quite a sum out of friendship for practically no monetary gain at all. I didnt even get the chance to treat him to some good prata :(

For our team project, we don't earn. So, we can't pay the crew. But we pay for their lunch. And commercial wise, i can tell you guys, from the day i started this team with another 2 guys, i never even touch a single cent from what we earn. Use part of the money to pay the rest of the crew (Photographers/Lightsman/Cameraman). And the rest, we keep aside to buy equiptments or further project (to buy food for the crew if it's not a commercial project). So i Stated no monetary return as to find somebody who is sincere to work, not "mainly" for money. That's how we work.
