Hi everyone,
Im totally newbie to guitar. Started self learn from the net (following justin guitar now). Still learning basic chords.. snail progress. :)
Wondering if there's anyone out there same stage as me? Self learn just for fun. May be we can change msn to share experience. Thks.

im self learn :D
well lots of people self learn anyway.
all i have to say is PRACTISE, yeap just practise you will get there.

Noel. How old are u? and for how long have u been learning by ur self? I'm a self-taught newbie too...going for a little more than 7mths

same here same here. 1 year self learn. trying to improve myself, so im looking for people to talk guitar with. people around me are just... music deaf... =c

What's there to talk about? I personally believe that the first step to learning music is to appreciate the emotions in pieces, and also to feel the music in yourself. The best way to achieve this is to listen to songs of many different genres. After that you learn to express yourself through the musical instrument.

i have to agree with csw...u guys can add me as friend here and maybe we can talk about music??? im not self learn but i think with real experience, you'll get a better understanding or views towards realising ur dreams. u can do it noel and adiew!

Monkey, im 32 this year. Hope is not too late for learning. Hah! Self learnt started last month. Just for leisure, no big dream.

Thks Zhul, I enjoy guitar learning day by day. Music is something really fun! :)

Its nvr too late as long as ur enjoying it. Learning guitar helps take my mind off things :) Justin guitar is a good site to reference from :)

yeah. its never too late to learn. totally agree. I've been playing guitar for almost 7 years now... but I still think I'm not good enough though. haha. any tips from anyone here to appraise myself?

sometimes i feel i'm still a newbie when it comes to guitar playing even though i've been playing for quite long and i've been in a band before.

well...actually there are lots to talk about when learning guitar...

cause when you talk and discuss, that is where you realise that music is not just simply practical but also you need bunch of theoratical knowledge to support your playing........

but you have to talk to someone with experience. As a beginner, if talk to the same may not be constructive as talking to someone who is really experience...

Seems that I'm starting later than you, attended a few lesson from the cc but stopped due to my schedule.. thinking of doing self taught now.

well self taught isn't so bad, as long as u know what u're learning. just learning more complex songs isn't going to help. what matters is that u learn some theory and all the basics 1st. this way at least u know what is going on when u play a song. there is plenty of good videos on youtube teaching u about music theories for guitar. i learnt from this particular guy on youtube for about 2 or 3 months before i went for private lessons. u can also check ultimate-guitar.com for their beginner lessons. some of them are rather effective though they can get pretty lengthy. hope this helps. i'm no expert, but u can pm me if u need any help and i'll see what i can do :)

I plan to learn Acoustic Guitar.
May i know which school should i go to?
Self learning is too slow, i am afraid i get nothing from it.

hey. i too just got my guitar today. so how can i start learning other than through the internet? any pointers?

@sazz : what guitar and how much did you bought?

hi all. i wish to learn acoustic guitar but sadly, i got no friends who knows about guitar. my budget is about $200. can someone recommend some models of guitars to me? thanks!

sazz: internet proves to be the most convenient medium in learning the guitar. the information available is boundless and its free! TS pointed out a good website www.justinguitar.com

start by
- learning the guitar parts (whats a bridge? whats a nut? what do they do?)
- some simple open chords (go yahoo/google do a picture search for guitar chord chart)
- learn a few simple acoustic songs (secondhand serenade etc)
- learn what makes a chord (CAGED system)
- learn the fretboard (where the notes are. how to easily identify a note)

x7ification: look around penin basement. davis has some takamine guitars. they are quite good and affordable.

@x7ification: hey i got a 2nd hand electric guitar from my friend. i dont know much about guitars but he's a friend so yeah.. there's mutual trust i guess.

@theunknown: thanks... i didnt notice it. shall go check it out.
