Looking for a studio to record our EP! Please help us out, thank you.

Hey, we're The Preamble. We've 5 full Originals, and 2 more in the making. We want to make an EP in the near future. However, as we're all still schooling, money is tight. So we were wondering if YOU, could help us out, by recommending a few places that have good quality for the prices they charge. Thank you.

Also, if you were at Cineleisure on the 20th of May, and saw us play at 7PM, what did you think of us? :)

Record with Roland Lim or Cedric. Don't settle for anything less for your EP.

Hope this helps! :)

^ Yeah man. What to do, the quality is there.

I think this thread is good for bands who would like to record their EPs so do share your views, opinions and experiences. :)

waah..the Mime is awesomely cheap man...any of u recorded before?Good quality?

Recording is expensive Bro TS. But if you think it as an investment, go for it...but if you record for fun/demo, etc...probably can consider home recording?

i did some fun-free-jam-for-fun-record with MIME (THOA) a few times.

tat guy got the ears and stuff. the drums he can program for you using ezdrummer. not bad mix imo. not the high end album type la but still acceptable oso.
MIME is more for the low budget bands like those who r still schooling or in ns or unemployed. very basic stuff but pretty gd quality.

yes the equipments bla bla are important in recording BUT the most important to me is the player.
if u noe ur parts,u noe wat u want then its gonna be perfect. :)

but of course by goin to roland n snakeweed etc,u will get better stuff. but it will still depends on u oso la. if during recording,u got no feel,no dynamics etc then the song will still be ok ok only. tats wat i feel la...

but most importantly, discuss of ur budget with the band and what will u do wif the demo.
if u guys wanna do for fun and dun mind forking out thousand of dollars, then go pro.
if wanna budget but still want an acceptable result, go MIME :)

and 1 more thing, dun rush through the recording. u may book 4hrs (example) but u will realise that u nid more than that. if u rush,it might not turn out wat u wanted.

my 45 rupiah

For your genre of music, I would recommend Roland for the bang for bucks kinda EP!!

But take note he is not available during the month of June as he is flying down to Perth record an Aussie band.

As much as I would like to work with him, I simply cannot afford him. Just his mixes are like $300 a song. No way we can afford that, I wish we could. Anyone want to sign us? :/

You can try "Fueled by Raman", see if they are looking for an Asian band to sign.

Anyway, drop me a pm. I might have a cheaper alternative for you.

Roland's rates are reasonable and I'm sure he will let you guys tickle his belly if you ask nicely.

Try Blueprint. I heard Ron of Blueprint has very competitive rates.

Thanks to Bro Aenimic and Bro Wyldeboon for the mention.

Also, I would like to make a few things clear.

At the rates I am offering, people might think that our bargain prices is an act of "terrorizing" the local industry music and sound recording rates; that I am trying to "spoil market", as how people would put it.

The above is absolutely untrue. I would be the first to urge you to invest more into your recordings. The current rates of studios and producers may seem expensive to most, but when one is able to churn out the results to match, you will know that you are getting your money's worth. So go for them first! I can certainly vouch for you; Roland, Leonard, Cedric, Ron and the likes are worth that much.

In fact, it is complete madness on my part to subject myself to working with a rate that's gonna feed me just under five dollars per hour at most times, so it was never about the money to begin with.

It is all about making sure that more bands have that chance to have their efforts put into tangible form.

With the kind of equipment that I have, I can honestly say that I cannot match the kind of quality that a proper studio and a highly skilled producer can offer. But I am definitely not someone who just have a few toys to play with either. Having done this since 1999 with a humble set up of a karaoke mic, a few download able softwares and a 20 GB pc, I can some what say that I know what it truly means to be budget. And I believe I know enough to bring out the best that I can possibly do, limited as I may be.

If you want, you can ask the bands and clients that I have worked with regarding their experience in working with me. They range from post-hardcore bands to rappers to film-makers to old-school rock and rollers. They're different in styles and genres and all, but they all have limited budget to work with.

Again, I HAVE to emphasize: I am not here to claim that I AM the solution to that problem. What I offer is just an avenue to aid you to further your band's journey. In fact, I should be seen as the last resort that you seek, when all else fail. If you can afford the expense you put to your high end gears for example, do your gears justice by having a decent recording done. I don't usually turn away those who want to utilize our services, but I rather not deal with bargain hunters who are looking to skimp financially with their recording but demand for a mountain. I am inexpensive, not CHEAP.

At the end of the day, what you are willing to spend reflects on your recording. If you want high quality stuff, invest in the producers that I mention. But if you are ok with what I do, pm me. We'll talk music. Not money. ;)

Well, we don't really have a budget, we just want to see who charges what for what kind of quality. Obviously we don't have 15k. But we could make money to get a decent amount. Thank you all for the replies. :)

Quite honestly, I won't actually believe any amount can be "decent" enough if you don't put a limit to how much you are willing to spend. You can spend $150k on an album, and yet it have it sound and sales are unjustified for what you spend that money on.

Also, you should realise that in making an ep/album, there are many things to consider:

- studio fee
- producer's fee
- pressing/printing fee
- marketing/publicity fee

Most bands in SG pump most of their cash on studio fee and pressing/printing fee, and skimp on producer and marketing fee, when in fact, IMO, the latter is the more important expenditure that a band should make in order to be successful.

So tell us, how much you are willing to spend in TOTAL, and how far do you want your music to reach. We will then tell you if it's feasible or not.

Hi Preamble,

I know you want your originals to be heard. However, you should look into quality over quantity. Understand that you band is still schooling. For now just save up the money first and practice with that "Click track".Once your band are ready then hit the studio and have fun.

Its better to have 1-2 quality recorded songs out on your myspace.

Good luck guys.....p
