Looking for a new guitar.

I'm looking for a new guitar. And I have lots of questions to ask. ;) I hope people out there will give me some advice!

Should I get a guitar with the floyd rose system? I do not use the whammy bar often. Also, I play songs with different tunings like from Standard to Drop C. Is it true that I cannot tune a floyd rose guitar to Drop C just like that? And.. is this true - I heard that the floyd rose keeps a guitar in tune better than a guitar with a fixed bridge? So... I'm not too sure which type to get.

Please help me! :(

Post Edit:
I have been playing for about 1 and a half year.

I play genres from rock to metal. Some examples: Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Green Day, Guns N' Roses.

My Budget is 1.5k+

I would prefer a guitar that has both good looks and sound. Not the Les Paul.

if you are just starting out, i would STRONGLY recommend a fixed bridge or Strat type bridge guitars. A floyd rose guitar is really a hassle. seriously.

get 2 guitars? maybe you can list down which genres you play then the others will recommend you guitars based on the genres. of course, it doesnt mean that one guitar has to be for a certain genre, or a certain genre can only use a certain type of guitar, but rather recommendations.

if you do not use the whammy often maybe you should just go for guitars with fixed bridge, since changing strings on a floyd rose or a guitar with a trem might be quite a difficult task the first few times.

You will need to spend more time changing the strings on a floyd rose... and if your not into metal playing, strat-style tremolo is enough. A strat HSS or SSS will be fine for you... or you can look at craftman guitars. there's one with licensed floyd rose which is quite cheap...

no. since u do not use the whammy bar do NOT get a guitar with a floyd rose tremolo. u will find that dropping tunings will cause a headache. dropping tunings will cause the strings to lose tension, causing the floating bridge to sink into the cavity. if u frequently drop tunings it is more practical to get a guitar with a fixed bridged.

even though there are locking nuts at the neck, guitars which are not set up properly and are low in quality go out of tune REALLY fast in my experience. however, there are high end guitars with floyd rose's that keep in tune brilliantly.

Have you looked at the Rg prestiges? Or you could look around the buy/sell section. With your budget, you should be able to find something you like.

NEW TO SOFT!!

Hey bro...

When i first started out i bought a very over the top shredder guitar with 24 frets and killer body design. It had a floyd rose and 3 humbuckers. Its been 2 years and i still regret it. The floyd rose KILLS.. Its great for dive bombs and everything and properly set up it stays in tune like a MIRACLE. But i believe a HSS strat would do fine for you. Real easy if you wish to upgrade later when you know what sound you want since strat parts are so common out there. Hope you make a WISE WISE decision... Thats all i have for you bro.. Good luck.

woh! 1.5k is A LOT!

i'm in not much of a position to give recommendations cause i've never played on a guitar that's worth more than 1k (except the gibby slash lp omg that was one sweet beast).

but if i were you, i'd check out

the prs paul allender
jackson dinky (get the high end with emg)
or an alexi esp (cost more than 1.5k though)

Think VERY carefully before you invest in a floating bridge (notice that i did not even say Floyd Rose) because...

1) To begin with, floating bridge is a hassle! Hassle to restring, Hassle to tune, Hassle to service and hassle to maintain! Dont compare yourself with professional guitarist because they can tune/detune all they like, string/restring all they like because....they have several guitars at their disposal at any one time and guitar techs to do it for them !!! Dun know about you but I dont...

2) Not all Floyd Rose (yes even the licensed ones) presents with similar quality. For the record I dare say that ALL low end FR are junk! Some mid-priced ones are ok. The good ones are pricey. Certainly not at $1.5k range.

3) You want to spend time enjoying and learning . (sorry, unless you're a professional guitarist already, pardon me!) and not to waste time figuring out how to work your gear.

and lastly...

4) How many songs you crank out of that guitar requires you to have a floating tremolo? Honestly. Ask yourself, (if you really die die need to grab a rod and twirl it all about!) can you just survive with a strat-style bridge? I mean I used fixed bridges and use the pitch/wah pedal to simulate the whammy... works ok I guess...

There you go.... something to think about....

If undecided, most bros here will agree with me, go for the fixed bridge...
