Looking for a guitar...

Hey guys. I own a Les Paul which is my pride and joy- I ahve customised it quite a bit and the highlits are the two (very expensive) gibsons pickups I put in - I love the sound feel and METAL that this guitar makes. :) I also own a Jackson RR3. I got this guitar for a thinner neck, in order to play some more soloey stuff on that rather than the Les Paul. However, I simply dont like it. Not the sound or anything, just the feel of hte neck. I ask you now, which guitar could you reccomend that is light, makes a fat tone and has a nice thin neck? A Floyd Rose would be much preferred. Oh, and no V shapes :) . If anyone wants to trade, I'm willing to. Cheers!

weeelll...i got a yamaha 912J, equipped with SD pups, not extremely light, strat style body, with floyd rose! heh. tone is juicy fat, and neck is fast action maple neck and rosewood fretboard. alder body. jumbo fretwires. shiok to play...
but.........i dun think they make it anymore. keke. but if u can find one on the 2nd hand market, shld be a good deal. someone once sold it for $320 thereabouts...cheers.

An Ibanez S series guitar would be a good choice... i got one... hahah... been advocating it so much.... just wish ibanez will less me have a signature S series...

Body is mahagony so there's a good tone coming out of it... slightly darkish coz of the wood, just like a les paul....

Because of the scultured body, the weight of the guitar is lighter than a paul...

Has wizard II necks .... thin and fast!

All are equipped with the ZR Trem... its an excellent trem that has counter springs so that if a string snaps, the guitar wouldn't go completely out of tune like a normal floyd... plus the ZR trem from 2004 models onward feature a D-Tuner to switch to drop D tuning instantly...

yeap... the only place... sigh...

its a good guitar... :)

i got the one with a black finsh that looks like it has a lots of cracks across the surface... love it!

if you go with Ibanez and you're willing to spend a bit more for higher quality, get a 500 or higher series model (eg. an RG5xx or something). 500 and above are all made in Japan and they use better floyd rose variants (if i remember right they use the LoPro II instead of the LoTRS floyd rose variant found on the made-in-korea models).

if you'd like a mahogany guitar with a thin neck instead of alder or basswood one, you could look into Schecter guitars, but they may not have trems, although i think there's at least one model with a floyd rose). i have their Terry Corso (Alien Ant Farm) signature model and it has a flat thin neck. all you ibanez lovers would dig it. it also has a mahogany body and flamed maple cap. you could also check out PRS's with the flat/thin neck option instead of the wide/fat one (but i don't think this option is available for the McCarty models). that'd give you a sound very much like the Schecter i use.

cheers and happy holidays.

Is the SA120 worth buying? I wanted the higher end of the SA series but i'm not a single coil type of guy. I prefer humbuckers in neck and the bridge. I'm hooked on SA120 but many said it's a low entry guitar. Is it worth buying? I've tried the RGs but they sound too thin for me. Any guitar that has humbuckers on the neck and bridge, a mahogany body and a whammy?

Only SA120 is the choice for me now...

the SA120 is a good guitar IMO. you should try it out & decide, remember that what's suitable for you may not be likewise for others... another dual humbucking guitar to check out is the RG 321 8)

Does the make of the SA120 matters? I've heard that ibanez got MIJ and MIK. I've tried it and it sounds good on their amp. I'm lookin for a midend guitar, does SA120 fits this category?

the korean SA120 is still considered an entry-level, if there is a hype that Jap Ibanez are better than the Korean ones, it's snob-appeal more like it. Marty Friedman is currently playing the Korean SZ320 on tour, while awaiting his signature SZ guitar, so would that guitar make him a lousy player?

5yrs ago, if you'd tell anyone to steer clear of korean Ibanez, then it's a valid concern because back then the korean units were riddled with reliability issues. the korean models after 2003 are superb IMO, there's no reason not to embrace one if you like one...

it's not just Jap & Korean, there are even Indonesian & Chinese Ibanez guitars...
