Locking Tuners to retro-fit into an SE custom.

Hi There,

I have a SE custom with a "strat-like" trem. Looking to get locking tuners for it. I went to a local music store to ask abt sperzel tuners. Was told that some drilling needs to be done. would just like to know if there are other options of tuners where I won't have to cut into my guitar. Or is there away I can keep the guitar in tune after some whammy abuse without switch out to locking tuners?

Thanks for looking this post up guys!

Would like to hear ur experienced views on this! =))

most of the time i realised it's cos of the nut that the string goes out of tune too much too soon. try lubricating the nut 1st. also keep in mind that the strings will eventually go out of tune after whammying. just by how much and after how much whammying. oh and considering urs is an se...the nut might be an issue since it's not exactly perfectly cut.

but no matter how lubricated or well cut your nut is, your guitar still would go out of tune, no? Go for Grover tuners, best

@bf0502tr:
Any lubricator would do or specific guitar lub?

@lemonade93:
Grover tuners? I checked them out and they've got good reviews. But will there be any extra drilling for the tuner screws or can it retro fit?

(From Dragon's Fire, Volume 1, No. 4, Sept. 1992)Yngwie says: "It has totally to do with the way you string and tune the instrument, the way you SET the strings when you tune them so they don't slip. And the order in which you tune them can make a difference, as well as the direction in which the strings are wound on the peg. Proper stringing and tuning is a very sensitive business. Since I decided at an early age that the Strat was my guitar of choice, I knew I'd better damn well learn how to string them properly. I don't have a locking tremolo or any such device, and my guitars never go out of tune. The strings may be dead after a concert--if you've been to one of my shows you know why--but they don't go out of tune."

umm what king of whammying abuse are you talking about? Just normal whammying, check whether you have stretched the strings b4 playing. Dive bombs? You might want to purchase a prs se torrero instead.

He already HAS a SE Custom, why the need to buy a new guitar just cause his guitar goes out of tune?

Just normal vibrato stuff and a dive once in awhile. Though I checked some videos about tunning methods. and tried to lube the nut. It worked abit. But I think I'll still install some good locking tuners soon. THanks for the info guys! real big help!

Do research on what tuners are on your guitar and find out the specs of the mounting hole. Once you got them, do more research and find out what locking tuners can fit into the same mounting hole.
