Local Classical Music Scene SUCKS!

Just wondering how much it takes to do a small concert at the recital studio near the jendela place at the esplanade? Is it a subsidised rate? And what do they offer?

Clement chow had a 1030 slot on a monday. Is that like a free slot or something?

You can find their rates here http://www.esplanade.com/SOPApp/espsop/portal_proxy?uri=qH=MrwM7shAKe!kiqljR3bhBmh1J.tOGoCSjBZgByCRTNd0DsJFM

What does a dark day rate mean? And how does anyone register as a non profit arts group?

konsandy, it looks like the esplanade isn't a charity really. They're a for profit entity. The NAC does hand out some grants once in a while. Maybe a cold call for one could help? It looks like it's $650 for a 4 hour show non profit org, with no rehearsals, and internet access!!!

But i'm wondering about the outdoor space and those weekend performances.... those should be subsidised right?

Not sure if different timings mean less rental though.

I've done a few concerts with a Singaporean amateur orchestra in the Recital Hall last year and this year. It is possible to get it done and probably break even if you organise the event well...as for the open air venue, I know there are certain days which they (Esplanade) are actually trying to get performers to volunteer to play...I've been approached before but forgot about the details...You can contact me if you are really interested in putting up an event in the Esplanade. I may be able to link you up with the relevant people...:)

hey veganbleu

if you get a chance to see (wee)beng plays the piano, i tell you, i would also want to be a beng!

this guy is sooo talented.

hi beng, nice to bump into you yesterday and thank you for checking out this little website. hope we will have a chance to do something together.

Haha. I always thought you had to have alot of spare cash to do a recital at esplanade. There is a jazz band playing at the open air space every saturday. I don't know if that's the volunteery one but the band seems to change now and then.
