Little Martin LX1 - great little guitar

I have always wanted a smaller size acoustic guitar, to play around the house or when I am out. Finally got a good reliable one that plays great, sounds great for a little fella and actually stays in tune. Very pleased with my Little Martin. Strings are Elixir 80/20 0.11 gauge.

Customised it a little. Bought a mahogany wood pickguard off ebay, and put on some fret marker stickers (irregular gold flakes holographic type). And changes the pins to black horn with abalone inlay. The solid spruce top even has some bear claws on it.

Quite pleased with my little purchase. Thought I share this with you all, pics are below.

To be honest, i can never appreciate the sound of the baby taylor haha. but if you say the little martin sounds nicer, i'm willing to give it a try. it sucks having to bring around a full-sized guitar all the time, especially when you don't have a car and have to squeeze into a crowded train or bus...

for travel guitars i'd be the most keen on the CA cargo, since it seems to sound very full for its size. also, it's almost indestructible. problem is that it's expensive, and CA has apparently closed down production... by the time i can spare the money for it, there might be none left unless someone decides to sell his/hers.

the taylor big baby also sounds nice. i've tried it in person along with a taylor 214ce, and seriously the big baby actually rivals the 214ce's tone and volume. thing is, the big baby isn't that much smaller than a standard dreadnought. still, it would be my top travel guitar in terms of tone and volume.

I was once considering the little martin LX-1 because it had favourable reviews and was well constructed. However, at the end of last year i stumbled upon a 3/4 sized acoustic at davis. The brand is "Farida" and its Made in China.

Dont let that dissuade you from actually trying that guitar, because its FANTASTIC. it has a sitka spruce SOLID top, mahogony back and sides for about half the price of the Martin.

Check that out.

Nice piece of equipment! I just bought a Martin myself and the sound is great.

Btw, what's that I see on the headstock? Some kind of insignia or something? Custom?

EugeneSmasher :

The CA Cargo is a sweet guitar. The big baby I think is a little big for a travel guitar, as you have mentioned.

Phanto :

Have not heard of Farida until you mentioned it. I checked out their website, a UK company. Nice selection of guitars they have.

Thats just a fishing lure decal I have lying around. Thought I stick it there for the heck of it! Ha ha.

I've a Farida with Engelmann Spruce top and Rosewood back and side. It's really very nice. Farida's are made in China. Got mine in Malaysia from The Guitar Store for about RM2900. Not a bad price considering the quality although Farida is quite nameless for those aiming for brands like Martin or Taylor
