Lightweight Electric Guitar For Ladies

Check with Yamaha if the course includes use of a whammy bar. It's common in lead guitar playing, although not a must for every style. Like others have mentioned, the tradeoff is the possibility of tuning instability with cheaper tremolo or floating bridges.

maybe u should give pomo a miss, they only have a few guitars.
No doubt the shops at PoMo and Parklane have a limited selection but we are specifically talking about trying Daisy Rock, Traveler, and other lightweight guitars. The LTD M10 is what, 7-8 lbs?

You bought your guitar already? Have u got a budget? If you really enjoy guitar and are serious about learning, just get the best guitar you can afford and don't worry whether its meant for beginners or not. i'd only consider guitars from 3 to under 7 lbs as lightweight. From 7lbs to about 8.5 as average. 8.5 lbs and above would be considered as heavy.

I will not personally buy a guitar from sweelee unless its on sale or i really want something and its only available there. Forget about the traveller, unless you're travelling often.

My list of decent lightwieght guitars. I do own or have used to own some of these as i do value my shoulder and back.

decent lightweight guitar list under $1000: yamaha rgx a2, parker p series, ibanez s320(discontinued), ibanez s420(320's replacement), fender thinline (mexican version used should just be under 1k), hohner gt3, prs se semihollow

Over $1000: prs mira x, parker fly, ibanez s prestige,

Hello, haven't went to buy yet. :P actually the Yamaha guitar was one of my initial choices coz of its lightweight. But wanted to hear more opinions on other alternatives. As for budget, I guess below 1k would be ideal. So far thanks to this forum and many helpful members, really opened my eyes to more choices. Now is waiting for good time to go down and try out some if these. Guess ultimately is the feel of it in my hands. Hopefully within coming month I'll be able to get my guitar. Can't wait. :D

I own an S series and can tell you that it isn't worth $1k+; I bought mine for ~$800.

It is a very very good guitar though, and the bridge is very smooth. It is quite a pain to restring, but thankfully it stays in tune very well so you hardly ever have to do it. I love it; it's my favorite guitar hands-down. I replaced the pickups with seymour duncans. They were the only part of the guitar that was lacking.

Weight-wise it is quite thin and comfortable, but not the lightest. I own a squire which is lighter, though that's because its made of cheap wood.

Someone mentioned Steinberger. Yes, they are light, but that comes at a small price: they are a little off-balance from the lack of a head. You have to use a strap to balance it out. My Steinberger is my daily practice guitar because its small and light enough to play for hours and hours.. I'm actually selling my Steinberger as I'm moving back to the US soon.

Good luck finding a guitar!

i'm not aware there's an exclusive gender model when it comes to electric guitars. if you wish to own a less spine-taxing guitar without too much compromise in terms of feel & tone, do check out Cort's X-3 (pic above).

Just to add on to this thread for anyone still looking around for a light guitar - I recently bought an Epiphone Les Paul Special II from SV Guitars. Anyone who is on a budget looking for a light Les Paul shape should definitely check it out. With a setup and thicker gauge strings this guitar is really very good value for the money. One of the lightest guitars I've tried - it's even lighter than some SG style guitars I've tried.

The PRS SE series has some light models too. Their solid bodies can be suprisingly light.

And of course try out the hollow bodies, there are some light ones with a smaller body shape from Ibanez etc.

Harlow, been some time since I last logged in. Would like to thank all for your generous help and suggestions. :) Just to update, I ended up buying the Yamaha RGX A2 but haven't been playing it much... I'm also waiting for my Yamaha THR amp to arrive... But somehow taking ages... Hmmm... Think when it finally comes, I'll be more motivated to practice on the RGX... Right now, I am practising every other day on my classical guitar. I wonder whether I'll ever grow out of being a beginner... But what the heck, I'm enjoying myself so far... :)

Ok then, tat's all for now. Again, thanks a lot to all you friendly people... :p
