hey guys, i've got a problem. i just bought the Lexicon Alpha desktop recording studio and i'm trying to install the lexicon pantheon on my mac but i keep getting the message "The application Pantheon quit unexpectedly" and i cant get it to launch at all. any advice on what i should do?

also, for the Cubase LE 4 that comes with it as well, when i open the programme it tells me to register but after i registered with them they still keep telling me to register, and tell me that i can only launch the programme for another x amount of times. how how how?

advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi electric_cars! :D

If i recall correctly, Lexicon Pantheon is a VST/plug-in, so you have to work it together with your DAW. Find the folder: "Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST" and dumb the application/software there... When you launch your DAW, you should able to launch it from the "plug-ins window" of your DAW.

About your Cubase LE 4 (i guess that's your DAW of choice?), i'm not so sure though... I've never used/loaded on before. Usually when i try to load an application and it won't "work" on my Mac, i'll restart it (i just put it to sleep nearly everytime!). Then, i'll try to load the application again... You mentioned registration, usually you'll get an e-mail with a "serial no"... My Ableton Live does anyway, might be different with different DAW... Maybe try once more.

One more thing, just curious.
- What OSX you're using? Tiger, Jaguar?
- Hardware? PowerPC, IntelMac?

hey echoist, thanks for your help, but i'm still having problems using the Pantheon leh. dammit. i'm still trying to find out how to open the plug-in through cubase. i'm quite a mac noob also lah, i just got my mac a couple of months back. using leopard, intelmac.

my problem with cubase is that their website doesnt allow me to permanently activate my product. it gives me the 404 error and tells me that the activation page does not exist. so i'm only left with a month to use it if i dont activate it within this month. i already emailed the website to check.

i'm still trying to find out how to open the plug-in through cubase.

To do that, you have to 1st activate/arm the track you want the plug-in to be in. (Just click on any of the tracks...) On the left, you will see a expendable/collapsible "folder" labelled "insert." Click on that. You'll see lots of small arrows, click on anyone. You will see lots of plug-ins, choose the one you want...

After looking at your earlier post about the problem, i managed to get a Cubase LE 4 myself and tried loading it up. Same thing, i have the same 404 error message as you... Not sure why... I tried using/demoing Cubase, a bit "difficult" for me. And "very slow" during firing-up/loading on my old-skool Mac. I'll just stick to Ableton Live for now.

On a different note: You mentioned you just bought a "newish Mac". Try out Garageband (if you haven't), its pretty easy (and fun) to use. And get "decent" recordings done. :D

yup i've figured that part out already, but it seems i cannot use the pantheon plug-in. it's not shown in the list of plug-ins available. i think i've gotta install it, but i cant seem to do it even after i did what you told me to, i still cant open it as it keeps saying the application is quit unexpectedly.tried restarting and everything already, still cannot. :(

Hahahahhha... I guess everyone might have figured that out already...

Anw, here's another longshot solution that "might work":
Try placing the Pantheon plugin in the Steinberg plug-in folder instead
Main HD/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/VST2
It might work, it might not... :D

The "earlier" solution was actually for the "local/common" plug-in folder (every DAW will be able to access it), but this one is specifically for Steinberg/Cubase. Like i said it might solve your problem... Do update us how it goes too... Good luck!

electric_cars: you might want to check if there are compatibility issues with pantheon and osx leopard. since leopard's pretty new, a lot of software/hardware still has issues with it (ie won't run, glitches, etc). i myself decided not to upgrade to leopard because i read that ableton doesn't run very well on it.
i'm not sure what's wrong with your cubase, but i used to use le until i discovered live, and i honestly really don't like it. garageband can do almost all of the same things if you're just getting into recording/producing.

echoist: what do you use ableton for man? i've only ever met one other guy in singapore who uses it

I was thinking that might be the problem too. (Compatibility issues with Leopard.) But i don't seem to be able to find any "documentation" in the web at all. Even the KVR site don't state anything: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1954.html We'll just have to wait and see if electric_cars manage to solve the problem.

About OSX 10.4 and 10.5, i have the same thoughts too... I guess i'll wait until most of the "bugs and issues" have been ironed out before i jump ship. Even if i were to get a new Mac now, i'll most probably partition the HD and have 10.4 on one partition. But anw, i'm using an oldskool Sawtooth now... :D

Hi Jon! :D

Its my DAW of choice. (Coz its FREE!) Actually a step-up from using Garageband. Mainly to record some odd guitar stuff with drum loops/chop-ups. You can hear some "ugly-sounds" here: http://www.purevolume.com/mrecho.

How about you? What/how do you use it for?

hey guys thanks for all your help, and sorry for the lack of a reply, i was really damn busy the past week plus, so i had not much time to meddle with my software problems. i still cannot solve the problems with my Cubase, so for now i am sticking to garageband, but i might borrow tracktion from a friend to try it out.

electric_cars: you could always try getting a copy of ableton live. it's the best ;)

echoist: i've recently been working on a live set with my bassist friend, using live as a sequencer and looper. i also do live pa/dj sets, and i use it for sampling and recording with a project band i work with in the states.

From what I know, Cubase 4 runs on OS X 10.5. Try download this and install and re-activate with Steinberg again (account sign-up required): http://www.syncrosoft.com/License_Control_Center-78-11.html

As for your Lexicon plug-in, I'm not so sure whether it can run on OS X 10.5.
- But first thing to take note, it's recommended to repair your Disk Permission before and after new installations.
- Second thing to take note, the Lexicon reverb included is a plug-in, so you can't simply click on the icon and lauch it as standalone without cubase (standalone not included with Alpha).
- And lastly, about how to properly place the plug-in into the proper folder, please see the Adding audio effects section found in Cubase under Help > Documentation > Getting Started > Tutorial 3: Mixing. More information can also be found in Cubase under Help > Documentation > Operation manual > Audio Effects.

If all these above still can't work, then it will be good to go back to your dealer and resolve the issue with them. Good Luck!!
