im a left handed dude and i play a right handed guitar the normal way... some times i wonder if it would have been easier for me to have stuck to learning guitar the left handed way...

anyone got any idea?....

I'm a lefty playing right handed too

I'm a lefty playing right handed too. I guess maybe cus we think differently, we have an unorthodox approach to playing the guitar. More creative maybe in certain ways.

I'm a lefty playing right handed, lefthanded.

I use a right-handed guitar, stringed right-handed, but with my left hand strumming and right hand fretting. So everything's upside down.

Can't say there's any advantages to that though.

Haha... I'm a leftist too but playing the normal way. I agree with engima, we're are unconventional people.

i think the only difference is the max speed u can get with ur right hand.

unless ur ambidexterious.

but seriously... i can't imagine if i played it lefthanded. i'm lefthanded but i feel most comfortable playing righthanded.

im a lefty, playing a right handed guitar, but its strung the other way, so i use my left hand for strumming and my right hand for fretting, like fored.

yep there are many disadvantages to this, but i didnt intend to play like this. i bought the right handed guitar with the intention of playing it the right handed way, but when i picked it up, i found i couldnt. i mean, really couldnt. haha. my right hand's useless anyway. it cant even erase stuff with an eraser!

so anyway im saving up for a proper lefty guitar when i can :0)

cheers, rock on!

LEFT HANDERS UNITE!

firstly i cannot imagine playing the guitar the left handed way... my fingers on my left hand are more... agile and strong. whereas my right hand is basically some bone and flesh attached to my body. i tihnk it reached a point just before i enlisted into the army that i realised " hey my left arm is wayy bigger then my right " .... now i have them equal.

fored how do you chord and play?....

I tried playing righthanded, then realized the bone and flesh attached to my body can barely strum. Haha.

I started out already playing like this, so I guess I'm already used to it. I play like any other person, it's just that the chords are upside down. Like if a C chord is 032010 to you guys then it's 010230 to me.

AWWW SICK.... then how do you play a barre chord?...

like a... power chord or sumthing ... 577XXX .. XXX775 ??

thats kinda tricky...
make sure you tell when you are going to perform...will want to see you play ...

cheers,
min

if I'm played a D5 for example I'd put my index finder on the 5 and my 3rd and 4th finger on the 7s.

Dont think i'll be preforming anytime soon, but okay. :D

but if thats the case.. all ur strumming would be apposite? that u have to start with a up stroke instead of a down stroke most of the time? cuz.. if thats the way u play the power chord.. the root of the chord or wadeva.. would be strummed first.. den the bass string..??

(i tested this and i got a abit different sound with my left hand  im a righthanded)

and if u play some pluckin like

-----------------------
-----------------------
-----------------------
---------7---------7--
--5--5-----5--5------
-----------------------

u'll have to do it all the other way round?

i still think its better to get a proper guitar for ur playing

i'm a lefty bassist...playing righthanded.....i guess it all starts from the very beginning....when i first pick up the instrument..i chose to use a normal righthanded bass...until nw...if i play the other way round...it's kinda funny, uneasy, strange feeling....very uncomfortable....

Nice to see a good crowd of lefties here. I'm one too though playing the right handed way. Regards to all out here...

gordonzz:

I usually ignore the strumming strokes, I play then where I'm most comfortable, usually just replacing the normal downstrokes with MY downstrokes(which means it's an upstroke), and vice versa.

And yes, if i play a power chord it'd be
--5----
|---5---|, hitting the highest string first.
----3--

And if i pluck something like that it'd be
Code:
-----------------------
--5--5-----5--5--------
---------7---------7---
-----------------------
-----------------------
-----------------------

I'm a lefty too! But playing left-haned haahah

Hi!

Thought that I was the odd one out, I'm left handed but the first guitar I ever picked up was for right handed and I have stuck with that ever since. Makes sense cuz our stronger hand becomes our fretting hand.

Me too. But im not officially a lefty because i do some stuff with my right hand. So don't know if this is counted or not.

Lefty here, but plays a right handed guitar! really happy to see people who are left handed but play right handed i always feel that left handed people are a unique blend to the human race. They way we think and the usage of the brain also all left side. Kelvin ho from guitar connection is also a lefty but plays right handed :)
