helo all....

the purpose of this thread is just to find out more about lefties who play the drums

i'm not being anti or some sort, just wondering for those left handeds,
how do you play the drums in the jamming studio.. ?
dont think you will be moving the equipments around ryte?

pedals? how you play them? ( if master leg is left )
hihats????

cymbals? do you place them around or play like simon phillips wif the ride on your left side?

toms? how?

all in all, master leg and hand are left, but playing the drums and setups like right handeds? just like simon phillips???

anwyay, just curious, NOT ANTI AT ALL!!!

peace

i shifted everything around. bascially Everything.
it's opposite of what a right hander play.
but when it comes to gigs it's hell troublesome cause u have to shift it and take up lots of time.

Left leg on bass kick, right leg on hi hat.
it's like a mirror image of right handers.

but when it comes to double pedal. I encounter some problem cause the pedal isnt designed to just "shift" it.
I had a funny arrangement to accodomate to the right handed doubles and left handed playing style. which i even find it hard to play. lol

just reverse the drumkit a la mirror image... that's not hard at all. Ian Paice of deep purple plays this way.

Or you could just conform to the majority of right handed kits, like Ringo Starr...

Or you could get both your hands workin' by playing like Billy Cobham. He's not left handed, he's ambidexterous.

wow redjackal... u mean u realli shift everything around in the jamming studio??
dat means even the 2 toms have to be changed ah???
wah.. like that sure take lots of time to set up..
and yeah, the pedals? if u got your own, den no problem ah, but if its the studio's.. how you use them?
i dont think you can basically change the attachment to the other side right???

funkifized, easier said than done... if your own drumset ok lah..
but the jamming studio's drumset?
gee..... gotta take lots of time just to set everything up again...

and yeah, billy.. billy....
he's just...... wonderful......
ambidexterous... just like you said... wonderful player!!

RESPECT!

was just wondering if right hander here plays the hihat with the left hand.
normally right hander will cross to play the hh with the right hand rite? i tink play with left hand also quite cool. haha.

sorry if i digrest.

play the hi-hat witht the left? thats quite common with jazz players. they play the consistent jazz beat with the left hand on hi-hat and come in on the snare witht eh right.

yep i change everything over in the studio even the toms, the only thing that i nv touch is the bass drum lol.
if you are always changing u will increase ur speed!
i take the same amount of time that my guitarist and bassist takes to setup.
They do help me out too.

usually i dont play the double pedal in the studio,
Else i will have to use the funny arrangement, which i just play for fun only.
cause what we play doenst require doubles.

are there double pedals designed to be used for left handed arrangement?

ynwa_dennis:
sometime i do play the hihats wif my left hands...
dat is if i want a louder sound on my snare, since my master hand (right) haf got more power ah....
but i still do haf psychomotor problems too....
but still sometiomes its fun to play hihats wif left...
sort of different feel ah..
i mean, feel different....

redjackal:
oh.. if like that, think youre a pro in changing them around ah..
hahaha.....

tama iron cobra got double pedals for left handed arrangement, but i dont know if singapore shops got bring them in ah..
maybe you can ask the shops( i guess swee lee since they bring in iron cobras), for special arrangements?
