Hi,

Guess you guys might wanna share some experiences of playing lead on bass.
Too many people talk about slapping and etc.
Let share a bit on play lead on the high notes. Anyone wanna give tips?
Stanley clarke does it well. Abe laboriel too.
Don't talk about victor wooten's tapping of Norwegian wood yet.

regards,

Ben

Hi,

yes heard of MM's power and his M2 album. Saw online a person playing it and also know wooten's thumb technic.

Marcus does more popping type of lick line.

I heard wooten's teen town on the word of mouth revisit. Fast and also include slap lines.

The innovative one will be michael manring's teen town on bass day 98.

Guess some of you heard of oteil burbridge. He does the singing on bass lead lines.

Anyone wanna share their technic and learning experiences?

I play more on chords to get the lead lines.

e.g. Gm7 - G , Bb , D, F (play ard with that)

regards,

Ben

know the root notes, play them an octave up, then figure out something.

that's how a noob like me does it seeing as I'm still weak with all the interval knowledge. I probably use it subconsciously after lots and lots of trial and error.

to be able to sing out your lines u need basic scale knowledge and a good ear. just sit everyday and sing out your major scales and modes. it really helps alot.

hmm.. no la, i paiseh sial u say until like tat. i draw inspiration from anything man haha. my bass heros are john myung ,tetsuo sakurai, MM, wooten, bill dickens to name a few. i usually get inspiration from everything. even sitting outdoors looking at scenery can give me a tune. haha. its wierd.

hey hey ..

playing lead is not as easy as we see it. We can always go for the root and arpeggio method but there are many ways to go about doing it.

For me ... if i'm too lazy to think i'll just play the arpeggio of the chord progression and include some tension notes e.g. 7th notes, thirds and sixths ... if not and i decide to do some planning i'll improvise from the 3rd or 5th degreee .. or if i'm a bit more adventurous i'll do it from the 6th or 2nd degree ..

hope that's not too confusing ...
