Thanks to mrmisse for the time and this thing
First of, the lal theremin really does comes in a soap box and its a instrument/sound machine by itself. It can be connected up to various guitar effect for more variation of sound
On the exterior, theres a antenna which can be extended to about 1m, a toggle on/off switch, 2 knobs, volume and frequency, power adaptor input and a output jack to connect it to a amp.
The basic 2 mode are set by turning the frequency knob. The pitch will become lower by turning the freq knob clockwise to about 11-12 o'clock position and get higher when fully clockwise. Set the freq knob at the instance when the sound/pitch disappear. Depending on the freq knob, the 2 mode are as follow
1)Hand get near to antenna, pitch goes higher. And lower till it stop when further away from it
2)Opposite of 1). Hand get near to antenna, the sound stop. Further way, the pitch gets higher.
After this, just use the hand to control the sound. From high pitch squealing to low pitch like a rusty door hinge creaking sound, vinyl scratching and beeping/pulsating beat can be achieved.
To get more weird sound/noise/high pitch squealing/low pitch creaking/beeping/pulsating beat etc, just connect it to guitar effect.
I tried out with the following pedals
Tremolo- Coneect it with a EH pulsar. Using one hand to control the wave/speed/depth knob on the pulsar and the other for the theremin, it really liven up the variation of sound from the theremin, might be suitable for some techno-ish/electronic music
line 6 dl4- Make the whole sound more ambient-ish, spacey and wider. It goes really crazy when the delay self oscillate and using the the theremin to control the sound
line 6 fm4- The fm4 when use with guitar, already have some interesting effect. With the theremin, it just get weirder and meaner. Plug in the expression pedal on the fm4 to control the intensity of the effect while playin the theremin, it anything but normal tone/sound.
With fuzz- Just like someone drilling the wall next door
Conclusion, this lal theremin can be a noise/sqealing/moaning sound machine and also a instrument to play melodic tune. Its all up to the individual. Fun toy to play with, especially if you are into getting strange sound. If not, then save the $ for some other thing.
