Lady complains abt drumming neighbour

hmm...i do use pad on all my toms and snare and oso cymbals...but i prefer to use the sponge little kids play with under my bass drum rather than carpet but the sponge is thicker and better sound absorber...the sponge with those A - Z letter that kinda stuff...but mine is for yoga type so it bigger and no fancy design on it...u can get a set of 4 pieces at $16.90 in westmall shopping center, tom and stefanie ( should be this name, bad memo here ) a store something like john little lah... :P

be fair and end all drumming session at 10pm and ur neighbour should not b a problems anymore unless they are really that "guai lan" then u no choice but to knock knock on their door and tok nicely to them ^ ^ gd luck !!!

Cheers!!

haha... i play the drums with the double pedal AND i am into metal... its like i close up the windows, the door and just whack... but luckily i live in a grounded mansionette and the family beside mine are hardly at home... but also, once my neighbour came over and told my dad, "Your son very good at the drums ah... Steady man"... and he's supported me ever since

When they ask you to turn it down, turn it up. Play until the police come. Curfew for noise is 11pm. All the police can do before that is tell you somone called. We had the police come on a daily basis for a while...made quite good friends with em :D

i played in my neighbourhood for around 7 yrs now.my whole neighbourhood's into music cause one of my neighbour's from that old 60's local band called the quests.well anyway.been playin away with no problems till this french guy moved in across the street.he kept complaining everytime i even went to play my set.so irritating.he threatened to call the police but it was like 3pm.so yaaa.till one fine day he moved out.ha.that was funny.

Hi,

I dun think there's a time restriction for complaints... we use to have a jamming room at my place and the police use to come once or twice every week in the afternoon ard 1-3pm.
I guess not everyone knows what is give and take... ever since we dun have the jam room anymore, no more police visits...
Revently, there's this drumming sound coming from a few houses away that i've been hearing and i think this guy/gal is lucky cuz his house a 3 storeys high and the sound comes from the topmost level, haha, he has took revenge for us and nobody can complain about that!
anyway, it's good on our part to be considerate but dun expect people to give the same response back...
after complaining so much, i guess what i wanted to express is damping your set is the right thing to do lo... but still shit will come to u, haha

cheerZ

i have a set of acoustic drums at home, normally plays them around the afternoon, when most of my neighbours are out..so far i didn't get any complaints, lucky me i suppose

I guess some ppl just don really appreciate good music :P like we're a generation gone astray to them...Even so drummers should nv stop practising, its our livelihood anyhow...

well take this scenario,

you want to go to bed at about 8.30pm in the night because you're tired stiff, and your neighbour above starts playing the drums, and all you can hear is repetitions of similar fills or strokes. You will definetly be irritated.

its not about appreciating good music, its about give and take.
i own a drumset and i have never played pass 8pm in the night nor earlier than 1pm in the afternoon. And they have never gave me any trouble so far. We musicians have to learn to control ourselves!

A good alternative to going to the Community Mediation Centre is for both parties to go to Mah Bow Tan and strangle the bloody life out of him...

:D

   ... singapore lawwww is that no loud music after 7... before 7 they have no rite to complain... of course the sliencing pads do help but eventually u get sick of them... ppl usually oni use for practice at night ...

ok if u wanna be more considerate yea dont play during muggin periods like may and sep/oct too much, and maybe restrict ur playiing hrs from 2-5.30.. if u really cant take those whining zombies then put a thick carpet on the wall/floor that seperates u from those whiners... a good way is to put 3 or more o rings on each tom to really mute it u dowanna shuff nasty newspaper inside, i think the most killer is really the snare so u might wanna find a way to mute it to... in terms of cymbals, they say u shd get dark ones, but heck... cymbals should be respected, get wadeva dam cymbal u want cuz u shdn go for thins and SC crashes jus cuz of ur neighbours... so yea... 2-5.30, where the actual time shd be 7... 1.30 leeway, can they still complain? if they call the police jus bring up the law and doubt they can do anything bout it... i have bad experiences with neighbour to...

ps, dont get electro drums if ur beginner, screws ur foundation feel

hmm...it really depend on ur neighbour ba... i do owned acoustic set at home before and i totally have no problems with my neighbour...i do stuff thingy like sponge in my toms and i fill up my bass drum totally with small pillow :D it is the resonance that disturb most, stop it and problem is some how solve. but i still sell two of my acoustic off because i feel that im disturbing them...haha!!! dun mind me :P acoustic set is really nice but what to do when u actually live in HDB ( Headache for Drummer Basically ).

but i dun give up drumming  im doing DIY stuff now and progressing well...hope to post my pics here some day when i get it into a more presentable look. haha!!!

Try tok to ur neighbour abt the timing and u should be able to solve the problem i guess. if he/she is nasty and insist a NO in playing. then go law by law :P dun get nasty before some body else do ,and if they do, be nastier ^ ^

heng man

i have a acostic kit too.. luckily my neighbours have not complaint. i seriously wonder are they irritated. they are nice people but i seldom talk to them. i'm not sure if they mind or not.. i just hope to never see them at my door step.. usually i play in the afternoons maybe tts why.. they not at home.. haha the funny thing is tt whenever i play. people who pass my house will surly look at my house. lol.. their expressions are like.. wow.. got drums.. i suggest tt just play what you like la.. dun care so much. but hor pls ask your neighbours first, you wouldn't wan a fight if you intend to live there for long right.

<HOPE TO SEE A CHEAP SOUND PROVING METHOD POP BY ONE DAY>

My neighbour never complain before. Except once when i was playing my drums at 1am when my relative came over to jam. Then i promised her to not play after 7ish..

I think the before 1 pm and after 7 pm unwritten rule is quite reasonable la. Sometimes I play till 8, but only on weekends because Lotus Lantern not on lol. Other than that I play all I want and my neighbours don't complain. Or at least they too pai seh to complain or something heh.

you played at 1 am and the cops didnt come over!? damn. I woke my darn neighbourhood up at 5 am when i got home high and then i got the cops coming over. I was doing them a god-damn favour!

Well feels kinda awkward now whenever I face them buut who gives a shit anyways.
