Hi, my name is Jixian and my friend Kris and I are looking to start a band. I'm playing the drums, he will do lead.
It will be a mix of old and new songs (He's the old, I'm the new) a peculiar mixture of 80's 90's hard rock/AOR/funk! and current top 40's stuff (Maroon 5, Katy Perry and whatever that's popular nowadays except for those dance stuff)
Now, we're looking for musicians who are serious and committed to this cause as we're looking for performing and gigs. There's no age limit for this..anyone can join! And we hope you have an open mind to play anything under the sun cause that will be what we're doing sometimes in sessions.
A good 3 - 4 year experience on your instrument is required (we're not asking for skill levels like Dream Theater but you should be able to hold your own). I don't think the Singapore scene is that demanding. Details below!
Bassist
Able to work well with the drummer (That's me don't worry I'm pretty friendly)
Being able to do lil' slapping and popping will be bonus points so we can jam ^^
Generally do some improvisation should the situation call for it.
Vocalist
Knowledge of harmony is necessary. (Provide tips on backup vocals, we can do our own)
For the girls we need a rather powerful voice...if you frequent bars/pubs you should know the standard.
For guys the contemporary songs should be no problem, but listen to bands like Firehouse,McAuley-Schenker Group for reference on how high you need to hit.
Rhythms
Know how different strumming patterns affect the tone of the song.
Actually I don't know the skills needed for the rhythm guitarist...maybe if we met up we would explain better.
I'm a big fan of funk style strumming so if you can do that props to you!
Keyboardist
Now this one we probably need a sessionist as most songs don't require keyboards. If we're playing songs that do so we need someone to contact so if you feel like playing in a band once in a while do apply!
Finally, it would be good to have miscellaneous skills such as knowing how to EQ your amp, mixer for the mics, music theory and proper grounding so to avoid that awful buzzing sound. Once again we really need competent musicians read :"not players" for this thing to take off so consider carefully.
There's too much to say about how we're going to work everything out with such conflicting styles, how we're going to practice and the minimum level of playing needed so
Contact me at 91573417 (text/call) and we'll meet up for a coffee to tell you more about this thing.
Let's enjoy making music together
