Kurzweil Keyboards

from what i have read so far , Kurzweil attributes it's success to this gentlemen who goes by the name of Joe Lerardi....

he was solely responsible for sampling and crafting the fine piano sounds that have been loaded into the various generations of Kurzweil keyboards...

the piano sound from the kurzweil is very 'processed'. by 'processed' i mean it's not as crisp and clear cut in-your-face like yamaha or roland ones. i had a kurzweil me-1 and the piano sound was quite lacking in sustain and sounded rather woody. like, the piano was being mic-ed up and you're sitting listening to it in the audience or something. the sound didn't make me feel like i was playing a piano, felt more like i was listening to a piano being played. it sounds great in a mix, but for solo playing, i wouldn't use it.

but anyway, their rhodes is really nice. warm round tone with nice attack that's not too harsh. it's the only sound i liked on the kurzweil module.

and, kurzweil boards are quite pricey. and only 48 notes of polyphony! 8O (and a miserable 32 on the module)

I agree with piano sound. About the only thing I enjoyed from the Kurzweil is their B3 and drawbars/faders. The piano from the PC2 isn't too bad but not comparable with the later Roland pianos. But it is an unfair comparison since the PC2 has been out for a while already, therefore older.

But the price certainly doesn't appeal.

the PC2 cost $3310 SGD while the SP88X Stage Piano cost $1830 SGD

if you attended the year end sale at City Music last year , you could get the PC2 at $2150 SGD and the SP88X Stage Piano at $1315 SGD

Kurzweil keyboards are great for performances ... lots of controls and expressiveness eg: the ribbon controllers (my fav). Maybe that's why Jordan ruddess use them but still use Karma's sound and his multiple racks ...

haha... $1400.. and doubleblade just mentioned that it was going for $1315 at the year end sale. hmmm..

yeah but if since the year end sale at City Music is long gone , $1400 seems like an okay price....

but you must consider why would they wanna lower their price for the SP88 Stage Piano.Maybe they might wanna bring in new Kurzweil keyboards when the new year kicks in (which is now) and therefore lowering their prices for the older kurzweil keyboards to clear old stock...

that's wad i personally feel...

If they are bringing in new Kurzweil keyboards.....then I wonder which ones they are bringing. hmmm....... 8)
