I finally manage to answer my own question... owe myself a cup of coffee..
I connect XP-80 to OASYS using one MIDI cable. OASYS is the "slave" here to accept midi messages from my XP-80 (XP-80: OUT, OASYS: IN). In my setup, my OASYS and XP-80 are connected to a Korg D12 Recording Studio, which I used to master my tracks and bounce for audio CD burning. Of course, you can do all these on the OASYS, but I haven't really figure out how to make it all work on just the OASYS... this is just a temporary approach to close up my learning gap
Of course, you need to do some configuration on the OASYS. You need to assign the input/output channel correctly on the OASYS.. was really baffled when hear no sound on the OASYS or KARMA not triggered... 8O
If you want to record your playing on OASYS to external keyboard, just swap the MIDI connection. Did manage to capture the drum pattern trigger by KARMA to my XP-80... also mange to capture the hard-to-play arppegio pattern to be used on my XP-80, that was my initial intention
I am currently arranging the song "My Will" from the Jap anime Inuyasha. I use the orchestra pad sound from my XP-80. When I play the pad sound on the XP-80, it will trigger the KARMA on OASYS for the bass pattern, arppegio and drum patterns... Hard to show you what is so marvellous about this setup, you just have to try set it up yourself to feel what it is like to combine the best sound and features of both
