IMHO

M50 = touch screen, 100% m3 sounds, full fledge sequencer
X50 = triton extreme sounds, small and light. perfect for gigging

I think it depends on your gigging aims. I have both, and I think the x50 is defo the lightest option available. The m50 61 keys is marginally heavier than the x50 but it packs more firepower in terms of the soundcard and features more convenient feautres and a sequencer. You really need to read the manual to get started though. For the x50, it was easier to learn on a trial basis. That said, the m50 sound is really an improvement over x50, trust me.

Personally I'd suggest getting the 61 keys m50 since it combines portability with abovementioned handy features. If I were starting off again, I'll get the m50 for myself.

I decided to get a m50 88 in the end so as not to obsolete my x50, which i still use for periodic gigging. :) The m50 is my main option for writing and arranging.
