Karaoke Room hiding vocal flaws

Hi all,

do you agree that singing in karaoke room (especially if the room is not big enough) normally hide some vocal flaws that you might have.

Personally, i believe so due to my participations of singing contests within this few years.

On open outdoor stage, it is so hard to hear your own vocal with this few points.

Sound System being place in front & side facing audiences.

Mic, Music Sound was constantly being adjust (the early contestants have the advantage cause they will recieve the best sounds system that some sound engineer had adjusted, plus the mic battery being in full power) As the contest proceed about. Some judge might talk to the engineer to re-adjust the sounding which will require the later contestants to put in more efforts in their vocal).

Of cause, mic treble, bass, echo & reverb will be set very low. (some contest mic doesn't have echo) Though i wasn't sure how low it was set to.

I had been to some indoor contest where they have good amount of echo. Thus letting the contestant to display nearly the same vocal ability that they had while inside their favourite karaoke room.

Ability to hear your own vocal well will allow you to sound better.

At the end of this topic, it still apply to how well and consistent the vocalist adapt to display in their vocal.

So if you ever visit karaoke, try to visit those where it allow you to adjust the sound system.

Normally, i like to off the echo or just put alittle echo. With the mic bass and treble low as well as the mic tone setting it to <- or lower than <-

This will sound more dry, flat and require more efforts in vocal.

^^ Yes, I do agree. Which is why I don't pay much heed to vocals on karaokes... :P
A lot of things are masked up. Your volume, the dry timbre, fake vibratos, etc.. :/

Karaokes are a whole diff ball game to me. You're not only wondering on whether that's your voice; It's how you alter it on the spot from how it sounds off the speakers.
