I notice posts with questions asking how to sing high pitch, what's chest voice, lung voice, falsetto, vibrato, and screaming.

My crap video here, will NOT show you to how scream, but will show the rest of the singing elements.

My cover for Jay Chou's Ge Qian:

Ok this is in chinese, I know you won't understand a word Im singing hehe. Thanks for you feedback... I know I need to practise more heee

its nice =D
lol lets fill in everything inside for the thread. this is screaming

screaming is basically forcing out air through your vocal cords and causes distortion.

but it takes quite some time to recover.

thats why bands that scream very often are really really awesome in live performances but sucks to the core in some other performances.

I like the feeling you put into that song (though I don't like the style in general :P ). I would call the voices you used there "chest" and "falsetto" (only a bit of falsetto in one section).

The final note was flat, at 1:30. The rest of your pitching sounded fine. Do you feel like you're straining on those high notes?

Thanks for the post~ Long time since we last watched your singing vids.. the blooper version was cute lol

You look different, new haircut? :}

Yep. your know reservist... everything short... no choice.

Just had a performance recently. I think i have more confident in my playing now hehe.

Yep.. I believe anyone who sings at that key would be straining cos you really need pump alot of air out strongly. Not easy task too. I Bet Jay chou or any male singers will have difficulty singing that part too.

Because if you take the last few notes onto the piano scale, technically speaking, they are at the mid end of alto (low female voice). Those are the last few notes before your vocal cords give up and hit the falsetto.

These are songs that are good for training to "push" the limits.

Actually you don't need to strain there if you use mix voice. It's only if you "pull chest" that it becomes difficult (I'm pretty sure you are pulling chest there). I don't know what Jay Chou does there, I will have to find the song and have a listen .. is it on youtube?

i don't think so. I'm quite sure Jay has taken vocal lessons.. in his newer live videos you can see he doesn't strain to hit the high notes unlike the past when he would crack or lose control of his pitching at high notes.
like what btherl said, and no offence to you, i think its a technique problem

If I had everything to concentrate on singing... thats my 3rd or 4th time singing. I dun believe anyone could repeat singing high notes, those above 2nd octave C for 1 hr.

btw in live concerts, jay chou only sings 2-3 songs that are high. And the fact he needs to concentrate on his piano or while dancing. If you do one thing at a time its much easier i suppose.
