Just Curious, are music qualifications essential?

Hi everyone, as per thread title, wish to know whether getting a qualification like for example, Diploma in Music, Certification of Pop Singing etc, is essential.

I understand it is very important for people who wish to teach music to others. What about for pop musicians who perform live music, or play music to various crowds? Is it an essential thing to have? Or is it good to have, but not of absolute importance?

What is everyone's opinion on this?

Not important for performing live. More important (apart from talent) is getting your face known by the right people.

If you're going for a job and your cv has to look good to get the interview, then yes very important.
