Jimmy Page kind of fuzz

Hi guys, I've been trying to get a fuzz pedal which will deliver something like Jimmy Page's guitar tones in Led Zeppelin II (Lemon Song, Whole lotta love, etc). The two I have now (ancient 15-yr old boss HM-2 heavy metal, and SD-2 dual overdrive) are distortion variants, not really fuzz, so they don't deliver the same tonality. Haven't really had a chance to try out the pedals at Swee Lee / Davis, etc. Do you have any suggestions? (Not some designer stuff which is too expensive, though.) Thanks.

Well, I've read that he usually used a Roger Mayer tonebender fuzz box, but is there something not so exotic, available locally?

Yeah I know, I saw that website.

As in the first post, I've used a couple of Boss units, an overdrive and an ancient heavy metal 2 which I used during my student days 15 yrs back. The SD-2 produces a nice crunchy tone when the distort is set to minimum and the tone to max, and you don't hammer on the strings. However it the distortion itself is very different from the fuzz tone.

the tonebender fuzz clone or variants are usually found only among "indie" pedals maker aka boutique...

It's not easy to find locally. Vox had a reissued in the 1990s, but it's really rare to see one nowadays.

i read that some players use to poke holes in their amps and bash'em up a little to create a fuzzy effect on their amps.

the slashing of the speaker was way back in the fifties/sixties before any overdrive or distortion pedal was even created.

Back then, the amps were designed to run clean and any form of distortion was no good. Wasn't till some crazy fellas during that time found out/ realised that the way to rock out is using distortion... the rest is all history :D
