Jazz Musicians in SG

Hey all! Just only recently really getting into jazz and I was wondering where are the common places to find like-minded jazz musicians? Seems like the majority of them stick within their own schools though.

Hey all! Just only recently really getting into jazz and I was wondering where are the common places to find like-minded jazz musicians? Seems like the majority of them stick within their own schools though.

Within their own schools - what do you mean by schools? That word could mean a place where people go and study music, or it could mean a subgenre of music.

And anyway what do you mean by jazz? Because to most people who "listen to jazz" it's more the easy listening type like jazz vocals (ie Ella Fitzgerald / Frank Sinatra) or the bossa nova. So I can talk to them but when I start pulling out my Coltrane or Charlie Parker or Monk bebop albums, they start going "ARGH NOT THAT TYPE OF JAZZ".
