Jason Becker's audition demo for David Lee Roth- Yankee Rose

heheheheh... long time i've not heard of that song...
but somehow, i prefer Steve Vai's version more. i guess it the dynamics... steve's playing is more "vocal", very voice like. especially the wah-wah intro. this is interesting tho... thanks for the download vaiyen...

p.s. for those who do not know, Steve Vai played with david lee roth band with Billy Sheehan. check out their album "Eat Em' And Smile" and "Skyscraper". Skyscraper is co-produced by Steve Vai too. u can definitely hear his "sonic" mastery. those are two of the best guitar albums i've heard. i'm sure all of you guys know anyway...

this is much flashier than Vai's version. But I also like his rhythm playing here.
Becker and Roth would have been quite a duo!

oh vern, this is abt the only 'rare' stuff I have of Becker. The rest are cuts off his albums, which I suppose you will already have.

any idea vai got the tone for the songs ??

damn nice .. hah

any 1 noe wat gear ?

becker's 1 also can

i only remember bits and pieces of stuff he used during his early years post-Zappa. i know he uses Dimarzio PAF Pro alot, on the bridge and neck. that is way before the Jem series. anw the earlier Jem series (the neon coloured ones - green, pink, yellow & flower) uses PAF Pro (n & b) and the Jem s/coil (m) pickups. this picture shows vai with a "Super Strat" he might have used during that era. the pic is from the inner sleeve of Flex-able.

amps (definitely not the Carvin Legacy) and efx wise, could be "anything"...

p.s. vai's collaboration with ibanez only begins just before or just after the "Skyscraper" album was recorded. anyone remembers the three-neck ibanez "pink-heartshape" guitar he uses in "This Might Be Paradise" (from Skyscraper) music video?

yea, the 'guitar talking' intro is classic.
it sounds like in Charlie Brown/Peanuts cartoon when the adults were talking... the laughter especially, hmmmmmm... that is sheer magik!
