As far as I know yes, Yamaha was the name of a founder. As for Nippon Gakki...literally translates to Japan Instrument, in case some members haven`t heard that before. Yamaha had been in business for a long time before they went into guitars, but the history I have read...Tenryu made some early classical types for Yamaha and Serior Ferrer was invited to Japan to help develop their first true classicals in `66...a date which coincides with their first factory opening up...he was directly involved in the GC-5, G-77 and BC-10 released in `67...course this is all stuff I`ve read, can`t say with 100% certainty it`s accurate. I have something I saw about Nippon Gakki co. ltd. had a factory in Hamamatsu Wada dated 01-24-1963...which just so happens to be the same place Yamaha opened their factory. The JIS 9202 number was consigned to Tenryu by Nippon Gakki in Nov. `69...though I`m not sure what all that means...I just know the JIS...Japan Industrial Standard came into being in `63 and is still seen today...and it seems Tenryu and Nippon Gakki may have merged in `69. I read mr. Hideo Ueda was assigned from the Yamaha Motor division in `64/`65 to work on getting the Yamaha guitar factory under way and was responsible for the FGs in Wada. I believe he is still alive so maybe someone will get him to write a freakin book on the subject...I bet it would be a best seller.
Pictures here are of the one and only Japanese Yamaha of Nippon Gakki that is remaining in the World perhaps.
It is up for sale after 50 years of unlocking my Dad's treasure. He took really good care of it and plays it when he has the mood for blues. Perfectly original in its original state. Everything is stock and it is still singing and playing like a fairy tale. Not for a fussy buyer. The inside of the pick-guard has never been opened ever since we have it. So little to no servicing is required. We have only used contact sprays to keep the play-ability alive. The sound cannot be totally described. Goes from an extreme rosewood Fender clean to a somewhat SG bridge pup overdrive output sound.
The Neck is Maple, Fretboard is Rosewood. Body is Mahogany. Pickups are of Nippon Gakki handwound and they behave in a P90 mode on drugs.
Comes with a 3 way switch selector for Rhythm, Treble and Lead, 3 thumb adjusters for individual selector output. Volume Pot, Tone Pot, Kill-Switch, Stainless Steel Nut, Zero-Fretted, 100% No Buzzing, super-straight Jumbo C size and perfectly straight neck, Plenty of Fret Life still, and a push-engaged Tremolo arm. No Gig Bag, bring your own.
Price: SGD 2,500 negotiable.
