Japan Fender VS USA Fender

Don't worry about the year. How will you get cheated? You're buying a Fender. Just go to a shop and try, and buy something you like. What others like, you might not like.

ic.. thanks..

i have already done research on the web, but i still do not really understand the whole thing about fender, so i am seeking help. thanks.

Basically the different years are the year that the model was first produced. The difference is the different type of wood that is used on each part. Some might have basswood body and maple neck. Some might have basswood body with rosewood neck. Some is alder body with rosewood neck and so forth. You might also find that some are fitted with texes special pickups and some with american standards, and some with stock pickups. Those are the main differences in the release years.

nitro finishes on highway1 are gimmicks, anyone used could tell, you dont get authentic nitro finish but still a good choice

the biggest different imo is the neck really, jap fenders, mostly have tiny fret and their neck are differently shaped which i seriously hated

hmm i played a mia and mij side by side cos my neighbor and friend brought theirs over to my house

im not sure what models but they were in the 1k price range

the mia sounded more twangy to me while the mij sounded more creamy

probably due to the build and pickups

Another thing between Jap and MIA stats are the neck. Jap necks are generally rounder C shapes compared to MIA that is slightly flat. Jap strat necks are also high gloss polished, MIA strats have natural finished necks. MIA fretboards are also wider compared to Jap Strats as asians have small hands. There are some Jap strat series that have jumbo frets though. And you can never find a 22 fret Jap Stret.

H1 models feature a satin finish, even the latest 2006 models are satin-finished nitro. Fender has a reason for employing this in the H1s, they aren't pulling a fast one. if you don't quite understand the philosophy behind this thin overcoat, you'd deem it as a compromise.

if 22 frets aint enough on a strat, why not have 24? :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_HM_Strat

now thats something that Japan has that USA doesnt.

imo in order to find the right strat for you, you've got to know what you want.

what kinda:
- body and neck wood you prefer
- neck profile you prefer
- frets do you prefer
- fretboard you prefer
- headstock you prefer
- bridge you prefer
- pickup configurations you prefer

last but not least, what kinda colour your prefer  .

if you dont know what you like, than just try as many strats as you can get hold of I suppose. for all you know, you might end up buying a tele or something cos you are so fed up with trying out all those strats and not liking a single one.

there's the fender contemporary series.22 frets.discontinued years ago though.

IMO they are heavier compared to an mexican made standard.
