Sounds like your wireless router signal is not strong enough to reach your PC. I also encountered this when my old 5yr Dlink router failed totally and I replaced with a brand new Linksys router.

As I was a computer repairman before, I did a step by step diagnosis. Easiest is to use a laptop to move around the house to guage the signal strength.

I found that the coverage of the new router was weaker by at least 30%. So I guess the new stuffs on the market have lower output.

To work around this problem, you can relocate the router to a more central location. (this will make the distance between the router and your computer shorter. But this will mean you need to shift your modem with the router or your network/phone cable.

Other posssible is to buy a higher output replacement antenna for your router (6dbi or 10dbi). other option is to get a repeater access point.

Last option is to run network cable instead, which is not easy for a renovated house. But this is the best way to get the best type of signal is still wired.
