I just got a part time job at Cathay cinemas (the new one opening next week). As an expat, this is pretty good but the pay is shit ($4.50hr)
Anyway I went to training on the weekend and it was all good until we went over the rules and policies of the place. They expect their male employees to have short hair.
Now currently I am trying to grow it. its been growing for about a year, and is very slow but its slowly getting there. where it is now is an achievement for me.
So I email the supervisor guy with this:
while I understand and respect Cathay's policies, however, I would like to have some negotiation regarding hair length and maintence.
I have been growing my hair for almost a year now and take pride in its increasing length. I ensure it is properly maintained by washing it daily and attempt to keep it neat as possible. It is unfortunately too short to tie back completely and too long to gel or style with hair products.
I am prepared to get a slight trim to neaten it up, but would like to continue in keeping its length. I can attempt to comb it back "Mafia style" in accordance to maintaining a neat and respectable appearance.
If possible would we be able to reach some sort of consensus, as I take great pride in my hair. It would be greatly appreciated.
He replied with:
You will need to cut your hair short. We are not able to comply to your request with regards to keeping your hair long. We believed that you will look neat and better with your hair short.
As soon as i read this, i was devastated and am thinking of quitting before i even really start :S
I've put too uch effort into my hair for it to be cut off for a job paying $4.50/hour.
What would you do?
