LOl..peter where n when will it be held??

from the updates ive gathered so far, this event will be held in march at tampines ite. the date isnt confirmed yet, but it will be coming soon

and the prize is cold hard cash...hehehehe

Well I'm not trying to be harsh or anything but from the experience and a few comments that I've got, the competition is rather biased. I mean the judges are not that really open to other genres. Playing mainstream stuff such as My Chemical Romance, Blink 182, Sum 41 or maybe some older stuff from Guns N Roses and Metallica would probably give you a better chance.

But if your band were to play something a bit more harder, heh it's better that you pack your bags and just go jamming at BMC. Even though the vocalist can be clearly understood with his or her clean singing, the judges will always think that the distortion is just to noisy. And even if you do rack up some kind of insane solo, man what a waste of effort.

But what have been said above is just coming from me with the experience and info from others. Maybe there are others who have a different senario. I only wished that the ITE organizers would do a mixed genre gig instead of a band competition. IMO that would be more happening.

Heres an inside info, currently there people from the local scene studying in ITE. Some of these guys are from Dyna Turmoil, Mistaken Pirates, Shadows Embrace, Jackalhyde, Dark Resurrection, Exuberence and tons more. See, wouldn't it be nice if there was an ITE joint campus gig?

tribalcast, thank you for the info and your experience in this event...

this will be my very first time gigging in this event. my first time going on stage in front of thousands of students, so im quite new to the fact that this competition is bias.

yes, i also think the event is quite biased. another update i got from my lead guitarist is that the leader of the group (his cousin) has to send lyrics of the 10 songs we're performing. and no, we're not playing anything harder than mainstream, we're just playing mainstream. but times may change. i believe that one day the judges (whoever they will be) will realise why this event has been so popular and appealing to many ite students like me. its because WE LOVE MUSIC. and i believe with everybody's help and support, exciting events like what you mentioned may be possible.

music is an art regardless of instrument and style. an art with no boundries, no rules...and i agree, that by having a battle of the bands gig, music is being restricted to a certain extent, which is a sad thing..

Yeah I gotta agree with madmonkeykungfu. It may seem bad from my point of view but it also maybe totally different for other parties. Well just go for it. Feel what it's like to perform infront of people. Remember be yourself.
