Issues with volumes increase for effects

I've got this issue with my effects line up, my rig consist of a overdrive, chorus and delay.

It seems that there is always a volume increase whenever i engage the chorus or delay with the overdrive engaged. All pedals are tru bypass. I've tried turning down the fx level for the chorus and delay but it seems like the volume increase is on the dry signal side.

Anyone has the same issue or has any solution for this ?

Thanks in advance for any solutions.

Hi,

is your setup as such

guitar -> overdrive -> chorus -> delay ?

Wad kind of pickups are you using and what is the brand of your effects?

Sometimes volume increases is due to the design of the circuitry of the pedal itself, some delay pedals like e ehx memory toy is known to have a marked volume increase when turned on.

Some pedals react differently to the impedance level it receives at the input signal. For instance, if you feed it a high impedance signal, eg. clean signal from passive guitar pickups, it may not create a volume increase when activated but if you have the overdrive turned on, the signal may become low impedance and cause the volume level to increase.

Generally, low impedance is a good thing because it means that your signal degrades much less as compared to a high impedance signal over a long wire. One possible scenario i can think of for your situation is that as you turn on the chorus/delay, the active circuitry in the pedals may contain a buffer section which causes the output signal to be low impedance, the amp then handles the signal better and hence the volume level increases.

If this is the case, i suggest that you use a buffered bypass pedal at the end of your signal chain so that no matter what your amp receives a low impedance signal and hence does not give you unpredictable volume bursts. Alternatively, you can keep your delay on all the time.

I hope this is the solution to your problem. If not, You need to provide more details on your pickups, pedaLs, amp so that people on the forum can help you pinpoint the problem :D

Good luck

I think some pedals are just built like that. once engaged, they will have a very obvious volume boost which I have no idea whether you can get rid of. one good example of such a pedal is the Morley Bad Horsie wah, the volume boost is so obvious, it does get on your nerves every now and then.

I'm using tesla pickups (Nitro Vr). My chain is Seventhheaven > TC Corona Chorus > TC Flashback. I will try to switch the flashback to buffer bypass mode and see if it works. Thanks !!
