i was about to buy an amplifier named Randall...it comes with a built in heavy overdrive that sound exactly like distortion...

sounds like you looking for a high gain amp.randalls are quite high gain.some thing that is on the same line should be the krank rev jr.should be.

hi Faizal.

the answer to this query is rather similar to these:

*Is Fender a good amp?
*Is Marshall agood amp?
*Is MESA a good amp?
*Is Peavey a good amp?
*Is _________ (other amp brand names here) a good amp?

a good amp is a good amp if it serves your needs.

First things first, the NAME of the amp is NOT Randall.
It's the BRAND of it.
Second, if it has a built in overdrive, which is heavy and sounds like distortion, sooooo? It's like saying "My aunt like's..." Don't leave hanging sentences.
What model of an amp is it? What's the wattage? What do you look for in the amp?
Please please please think before you post. Other people are reading what you write, so be mindful and show some effort at least.

Now back to the point, I personally am using a Randall RG100SC amp, and I am satisfied with the tone. I like the clean I get from this, it is really solid state kinda cleans, not emulating tubey cleans or whatever. For distortion, it's very versatile. Covers from Blues to Metal, plus the reverb adds life to the tone. Only downside is that it is a Chorus edition of the RG100, but the absence of a Mix knob for the chorus makes it hardly noticeable. Takes to pedals well, depending on volume!

if its got power tubes in it ..then yes:D

Not necessarily.. Once the stereotyping begins, the road to good tone is cut by half..
Sometimes you should seriously be blindfolded when testing gear..
Tubes doesn't mean good, solid state doesn't mean it's not as good as tube..

dimebag used randall warheads... and i haven't found or heard any other gear that can replicate his kinda of heavy grinding gain. i also read somewhere long ago that tube amps are good for that warm clean tone, but solid states are actually better for high gain usage, solid states can give u more gain.

tube amps are favoured by blues players for that chimey tubey smooth orgasmic tone, but if u play genres which favour high gain u should consider solid state. tube fanatics who bash solid states are likely not high gain fans, so all in all its all preference and what u play.

Gain fanatics like Kirk, Dan Donegan, dimebag and even Brad Delson of Linkin park use Randall MTS series (all tube). By the way, does any one knows any famous artist plays pure solid state amp?

for me i feel randall amps have a nice overdrive tone.. However their clean sounds a bit unclean to me..But its quite reasonable for its price for the sound u get in this amp..u can get it quite cheap at g77

Hahas... I personally own a Randall RX20D and I have to say Randalls are quite versatile when it comes to distortion/overdrive. Randalls(some models) also come with onboard effects like different forms or reverb, "Rot Spk", Delay, etc. And yes, the od boost!

EDIT : clean sounds unclean? weird o.o
