okay, please dont get mad at this.

Heres the Sitch.

I;ve got a TGM Les Paul which I am pretty fond of, one of he few that i actually "jagar" and maintain. besides my Gib.

Now I just wanted to know SOFT's opinions if it was Worth Setting up. There IS very slight String Buzz and im not sure if a Set up will Fix that. but Hey what are your thoughts.

IM pretty sure a few of you are like doubting this TGM, but if i set it up nicely~ and if you see me around, i'll definately give you guys a go at it

AND im also wanting to know whose the best man to goto to See if this guitar is worth setting up. Beez? or KC or whoever else?


I really like the fretboard on this one, its not dry and stuff~

any instrument is worth setting up as long it bring joy to player and allow music to be made.

But how much are we willing to fork out for setting up and whether is it worth it. That is depending on the one having and playing the guitar.

When its something close and personal to us, the opinions of others often lack the emtional aspect and physical attachment factor. While it might be useful in term of having other thoughts and suggestions, ultimately, the deciding factor shud lies in oneself.

Hehe, i know the above sound as if like never say anything. but for a guitar that you like, take charge of it personally..good or bad it might be one day, at least you made a choice of your own thoughts, not thoughts from others.

As for who to set up, heh, i leave it to the rest to come in with the name..

imo, the most well set up guitars are those that you set up yourself. Because no one knows your own style of playing than you yourself, so you can tweak to your own personal preferences. I think that fret buzz is impossible to remove from any guitar, no matter how slight. Fret rattle on the other hand, is something else, and should not be confused with fret buzz. If it is not heard through the amp, it really is fine so don't worry!

Regarding set ups, if it's anything involving bridge, saddle, minor nut work, truss rod and the likes, I do it myself. Anything more difficult, such as fret crowning and level, I leave to the good techs.

I personally think it's a ripoff if you are being charged $50 or more for a basic set up - those that involve only adjusting the radius of the saddles, bridge height, relief, pickup pole height and the likes. In other words, those that you can experiment with yourself using tutorials online. Don't like what you did? Just reset them back to what you started with. Don't have a radius gauge? Go to the kinmans pickup website and print one out on cupboard. It really isn't all that difficult or mysterious. And hey, once you've mastered the art of basic set up, maybe you can start off by charging people $50 for it. =D *just jk*

Anyway, if the set up does include fret levelling and nut work, it would most likely run up to $100+ which is 1/3 to 1/2 the price of your guitar, no?

erm dude, you forgot to factor in the cost of lunch and tea break and maybe dinner. so actually, you gotta charge 80 dollars at least for setting up for people. xD

Ouh, yea, NO buzzing is heard through the amp during Clean playing.

I COuld set it up myself like i always do, but Im not exactly sure what the stardards are for a Paul.


optisailor2002: I got it from MusicTheme. i couldnt get my eyes off it!! i waitted for a week and Nobody bought it, so i Grabbed this baby!

mamemo: the only other TGM i;ve tried was the ovation Copy, and i didnt get that cuz the Frets were uneven!!

Compared to the Gibson SG Standard, i actually pamper this $200 guitar more than me Gibson, NOT THAT I DONT take care of it. I just feel a special connection to this really sweet guitar.

The Gibson no doubt has that damn Good "bounce" to it. the TGM Doesnt feel plasticky at all. neither does it feel like a plank. i would compare it to any MIK or MIC Epiphone Les Paul.

almondx: YEAH!i totally agree. i dont like the idea of Paying someone that kinda money just to turn a few damn screws and stuff.

BTW, this came with Gold Hardware before, Changed it to copy a uruha Hellion.

AzJnT bro, try to set it up all on yourself 1st u fumble it, just sent to music theme or city music, i dont think a basic set up is that ex.

Whereas for the TGM brand wise, Don't care abt it. I know that I've come across a lot of so called brandless guitars that are really well done which can really give the leaders a run for their money. Too bad their workmanship is not consistant.

Anyways, let me know once u got your band set up. I wanna go kepoh² go see...

That's a really sweet looking axe there bro. I'd say that if it really means so much to u, go ahead and get it setup. What's the point of not setting up a guitar u wld play consistently(i assume)? The fret buzz(if it isn't finger buzz)will prob drive u crazy bcos of ur emotional attachment to this guitar. As for gd techs, KC, Beez and Mike@SV are top of my list.
