installing p90 in tele bridge

Possible? Hope it won't be too troublesome...
its gonna be troublesome because of the tele bridge plate, u have to get 1 routed for a P-90 , so far I haven seen any locally though.

what about the body rout? is the mim standard a swimming pool cavity so that i can install p90s?
hmm im not sure but the last time I opened an MIM tele is wasnt a "swimming pool" in the bridge. Only the neck was routed for a Humbucker.

BTW do remember u need a tele metal bridge plate that is routed for a P-90 too.. not just the body being routed for it. :)

yep ok thanks. thats too much trouble...even if i can manage to find the tools.

any alternatives to this? i want to get the p90 bite in my tele...i thought the mid-range was kinda tame on its bridge pickup.

veering off a little- you can invest in this P-90 equipped tele as an alternative...

hi shouheng,

just curious, why do you need to have a P90 installed in the bridge of ur tele? is it for Looks or the Sound/Tone.?

if it is for the Sound/Tone then u can try mew's suggestion regarding the Lindy Fralin Steel Pole 43 as it meant to sound like a P90. or u can try the Chopper T (for teles) by DiMarzio. it approximate the sound of P90's (to my ears only...) plus it do not have the hum. i used to play a friends Les Paul with P90s and love it so much that i try to get the sound. thus the tele pictured below. i put the Chopper T (b) and Mini Humbucker (n). i used to have another tele with a P90 at the neck too... but sadly both i've sold away...

thanks for all the suggestions guys!

echoist: I'm thinking of a p90 cos I'm not satisfied with the bright but brittle tone in the bridge. I need something with a more pronounced mid-range and more bite. like the p90 i heard on my friend's les paul...though thats another guitar altogether. I'm trying to avoid hbs as I got a les paul with the SD JB at the bridge...would like more variety. Think i'll check out the fralin and the dimarzio.

btw...sweet tele you got there echoist! the mini hb in the neck looks sweet...did you have to get it routed? oh hell....its all about the looks!

ohhh, ok! i see it now... u're just like me then! i tried to get the sound of the P90 after playing with a friend's P90 equipt les paul... yes, check out the dimarzio, it is close! well, to my ears that is...

that's a dimarzio mini hb there in the neck position. and yes, i have to get it routed as it was an early 90's tele without the hb routing. i did it the old skool way with a chisel, took me a few hours to get it done! and yes, everyone said it looks, interesting. wish i still have the guitar now... oh well...
