OK! im in the red right now, so all help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an external harddrive which i store all my important data in, however just a few seconds ago, i actually hit the usb cable connected to the com while taking out my earplugs, and thats when an error sign appear and since then i cannot access my hdd anymore.

It just says that drive is corrupt and unreadable. My drive reads in my computer under a generic drive name but i cannot access it via a double-click or through exploring it.

Ran it through spyware and virus scans but nothing detected, i have not loaded or touched the content of the drive for about a month and even then, all the files in it are secure important data.

If anyone has the faintest idea of what went wrong and how to rectify, please, your advice will be tremedously appreciated.

eh darn that sucks.

i had something similar before.

my entire collection of mp3, photos and videos were all wiped out

and there was no way to save it

good luck with your problem

wldnt bother much if it was mp3s and stuff man.

what i have inside are my past projects, campaigns, education documents, and other important things. Which is why i set aside a hdd just for that.

sheesh, i cant believe just a slight tap on the cable can shake this!

arghhhhhhhhhhhh.

ya restarted a few times already.
erm ya shld be, its only half a yr old, but warranty also no use what, all my data is gone.

quite impossible for a simple knock to make the whole hdd haywire.

when all else fails , try to contact the company and ask them whether they could extract the contents out.

ya thats why, not even a knock man, is like a tap, cos i hit the connector when plugging in my earphones.

i doubt they will bother extracting for me la, its bought from sim lim and we all know the service quality provided there.

dong go get one of those hard drive/data recovery software off a torrent or something. works a charm, i saved a friend's final uni folio with one of those

What formatting did you use/was there on the partitions? NTFS or FAT? Now before you happily go pirating, try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testdisk ;)

If you hit the USB head, then yes there is a chance the synchronous scheduling was illegally terminated and/or interrupted. That is why you are told never to remove a USB device without clicking on that "Safely Remove" tray icon.

And..Just because you don't know your way around Sim Lim doesn't mean all the stores there provide the same "quality" of service :) But depending on the store you bought it from, if it's a blacklisted one, you're out of luck indeed if you want to bring it back.

thanks guys!

yup im heading down to sim lim today, well when i mean quality of service, im saying that the most they would do is replace a set for me and im betting wldn't go out of the way to retrieve the data for me.

but yep! thanks to all for the replies, deeply appreciated.

will let you guys know how things turn out.

easy peasy.. try opening the "ENCLOSURE" (cant believe i just said that)

Remove and reattach the Data cable (IDE or SATA) as well as the Primary Master Slave thingy.

i hope that helps.
