hey . would like to noe abt improvisation on the guitar

for example .. if a song is in the key of G#

how do i noe wat scales and wat notes to play ..

plz shine some light on this topic for me !! THX !!

Now that's where your music theory comes in...

if the song is in a G# key , then the scale to use for the song would be the G# scale....

Each scale has it's own notes and you'll need to do some reading up first

Eh on the guitar? I duno but i rely alot on feeling. Theres nothing wrong or right in guitar playing, neither is there a shape to actually help you to sound right.

At different part of the songs, you can hit that "few" special notes, thats not in the pattern. For me, i play "all" the notes, but some of them which aren't in the shape or the pattern, i use them as a form of... "intensifiers". To bring the song to like a climax or something.

Something like that lah, can understand? Haha

g# is the enharmonic equivalent of Ab.

In theory, g# major would have 8 sharps if you wanna be anal about it but for simplicities sake, we just take it to be in Ab major and use the 4 flats which doubleblade mentioned

DoubleBlade, you are taking piano lessons right? ask your teacher and see what is the answer.

Remember , the scale tells you what sound right together with the arpeggios. Of course you can play almost any notes on the fretboard, but knowing that if the chord is G# for example, the notes are G# C D#, you should try play around these notes. You may stop at these notes, depending on your choice, or for example stop at G, so as a result if the chord is playing G# and you stopped at G, the whole thing sounds like a G#maj7 as G is the maj7th of G#.
