Okay, maybe I've been a bit harsh on my earlier comment about you,Khai.Just that the way you straightforwardly said "stick to karaoke" gave me the impression that if a person could not sing,he should just keep himself holed up or something...Which is not the case.As proven by many professional vocal instructors such as Brett Manning and his mentor(can't remember what name,he found SLS),singing is possible with anyone given the correct technique and so on.
Anyways,I've listened to some songs on your website, and found them good, given the standards in Singapore of course.I do apologise for my rather rude comment up there^ .
PS:Have you attended singing lessons or something?Just curious!
No worries. I get that a lot. You're not the first.
Well, i haven't personally known anyone who can't sing, took up lessons and got better. However, I do know some people who are currently and are still taking SLS lessons, but still have no improvement. Personally, I've tried some of the SLS lessons online (which are free and simple) and it has, in a way or two, refined my voice and helped me maintained a consistent level of performance.
So, my stand still remains. If you can't sing, just stop trying to show off a talent that you obvious and clearly don't have. If you want to know whether you have it or not, send me a demo.
But, for those of you who have sent me demos, and i believe to have potential, trust me. I will help you out in ways that i can. Usually just guide and tips and advice, but nothing more.
And no, I haven't attended formal lessons. My family came from a background of singers and/or musicians. My granduncle and grandaunt were singers from the 60s (Eddie and Hamidah Ahmad). My uncle, Trisno Ishak, was the lead singer of UrbanExchange. At least 1/4 of the family is either a musician or singer. Generally everyone in the family can sing.
By the way, mind if i have a demo of you singing?
3 types
Born to sing
Not born to sing but can do that after training
not born to sing and still the same result after training.
Well, my personal theory has 4:
1. Born to sing
2. Born to sing musicals
3. Sing karaoke with friends etc (non performance/competitive)
4. Keep quiet and do something else.
